| yes, only putts ON the green count... even if you land the green, then putt past the hole unto the fringe, then make the return putt... that only counts as ONE putt.
reminds me of the round I saw last year where Paula Creamer (I think it was her) landed a par 3 green from the tee, then putted off the green, across the cart path and into a hazard. She took a drop for an unplayable lie, chipped the ball back to the green, but the ball came back and rolled back into the hazard. This time the ball was playable. She chipped this time to the fringe on other side of the green to keep from rolling back again. She putted from the fringe and kept the ball on the green this time. From there she 2-putted. Even though she scored a GIR and shot an 8 for the hole, she only recorded 3 putts!
