Yeah, he had the same problem on BB too. I play with guys that do this all the time -- they outdrive me by 30 yds. but I have a more or less full shot to the green and they chunk their approach to somewhere in another county. My short game is the best part of my game and I consistently beat those guys because they waste a lot of strokes around and on the green.

Me, I just try to make sure I keep the long ones in play and stay out of trouble until I get in the scoring range. If I do that then all is good.
