| I play very similar. Usually my woods or irons are great, and the other is not so great. Regardless, to score how I would like to score my short game usually needs to be on fire. If my short game and specifically my putting is off, it is usually going to make for a long day. Anymore, short game is usually the only thing I will practice outside of the course, although I do usually get out for a couple 9 hole practice sessions a week on the course.
Anytime I find a happy median with my irons and woods, and my short game is normal or better then I will usually have a round to remember. For most of the last year my irons have been better than my woods, although since getting my new irons my woods have come around and there has been a slight learning curve on the irons. Just recently I have started to get in sync with my irons and have had a few rounds where I played them all well. Hopefully a sign of things to come.
