Who needs a FW wood? I popped one up into the rough about 20yds. with my driver today... Like the famous photo.
I got so pissed off I hit my driver again out of the rough approximately 230yds. up the fairway with a little cut. lol. And this was not sitting up either, I was amazed I caught it that well. I was just so mad I didn't care.
I normally will pretty much play any club from a decent lie or in weak rough. The thick stuff? If it's down forget it. Pro's can't even hit out of that crap, I use a SW and make sure it's out.
