Perhaps you need a thought like dropping your elbow back into your body? If you get your right elbow firing into your body, your shoulder will have to follow.
This might be just me, but if you want a crazy drill to help teach about keeping the arms in close to the body, get a 6 or 8-lb sledgehammer, take it back on the plane of the shoulders, and swing it into a tire or something soft enough to slam against down low on the ground. Not only will it help build strength, the weight of it helps teach finding the slot for your arms to go and the sledgehammer to follow.
