I congratulated him yesterday. This tournament is taking place only a few miles from my house. A friend of mine played in this yesterday, a 1 index. He shot an 80, 19 shots worse than McIlroy. The SSI yesterday was 74. Which means young Rory, who plays off +4 lost 1 full shot off his handicap.
When was the last time you lost an entore shot in a round?!!!
To put things in context, he came back in an incredible 28, -8, birdieing the last 6 holes. Clarke, Harrington, McGinley etc have all played in this event as amateurs. Previous best score was 64.
