This is an interesting topic but the OEM's are doing it to only increase profits.

The Callaway I-Mix system (example) costs huge bucks for the head and you then have to buy the shaft (their choice of inventory) with their adapter from them only at more huge dollars. So you can't pick the lesser known shafts or (probably) better shafts from other dealers at better prices.

Component head maker Integra golf is coming out with a system for very reasonable $$$ where you'll get the head and five adapters that you can put on your own shafts. This is what will sell.
