Agreed it was some shot, good win etc. But I think it was similar in a lot of ways to WF. It was the final hole. He chose the most direct route and refused to play out safe. He didn't have to go for it in Winged Foot, but he figured it was a better option that chopping out sideways. I actually think he went for the green because the pin was in such a tough spot.
Yesterday he hit a great shot, but admitted that he caught the branches with it. Luck played as much a factor in it landing on the green.
I agree that it took immense skill and strength to be able to even consider that sort of shot
Phil seems to go for everything thats not nailed down. Some you win, some you lose. I saw him hit a full on 3 wood from the trees on 8 at this year's Masters. He missed the tree by an inch! It wasn't exactly a safe shot!! And he ended up making bird! But I also saw him play pin ball with the trees several times too.
It's a bit win or bust with Phil. I kinda like it but it's risky to say the least (Doesn't he have some sort of gambling addiction?). It's certainly exciting to watch though.
