| I get the "senior" coffee at McDonald's every morning for 25 cents. I get senior discount when the wife and I eat at a "gummers" Sizzlin' Sirloin, or similar, buffet. Children are older than some who post on this board and have 5 grandkids. But...
Our group walks and is the first group off each Saturday and Sunday. I've got a bad knee and bad back. Yet, there aren't many folks out there who will play at the pace we do. The course knows we will set the pace for the day. We will play the 18 in just under 3 hours... walking... from whatever tee box that seems the order of the day.
There is nothing more enjoyable than having the opportunity to play with young flat-bellies who have amazing athletic talents... and watch them get frustrated when folks who may not be able to hit is quite as far as them end up scoring better at the end of the round. One must always remember, "It's not 'how', it's 'how many'!"
I have waited on folks much younger who think they are Tiger incarnate and have to exactly line up the 4th putt. I have waited on folks much younger as they search for tee balls in gunch 25 yards left or right... but, they did hit it a long, long ways!! Ii have waited on folks much younger who are riding in carts but can't keep a reasonable pace of play.
No, a golf course is no place for we seniors. Once we hit 60, we should sell the clubs and turn to checkers or knitting. Once we can no longer hit a ball 320 yards, like ALL those young flat-bellies, we should have the kids check us into the nursing home.
If you were ever to venture through our area, I would ask you to contact me to play a round... walking... from the tips... straight up... for a little cash, just to make it interesting. However, since we seniors have no business playing... or at least playing from the tips... I guess that won't happen. Too bad. I could use a little extra coin to supplement my social security!
