"Breaking in" golf shoes

I just bought a new pair of Footjoys. They're definately the right size because the next 1/2 size down cramped my toes and the next 1/2 size up was definately too long. But after using a cart and wearing them in order to break them in, I went ahead and walked the course the other day. Now the backs of both my feet are rubbed raw and they hurt. I've never been a big walker of courses but now I like the idea of walking most of the time.
But is there normally a break-in period for golf shoes? Until a few days ago, I'd never actually walked an entire course in golf shoes.

I'm really considering just getting a good pair of running shoes because A) My old ones are worn out anyway, and B) If I can run four miles in a good pair of Asic running shoes I can sure as hell walk four miles in them.
