2 courses on Oahu - Heaven & Hell

OK. Hell - Ko'olau Golf Course advertises itself as being the toughest golf course in the U.S., and if there is a tougher course, I don't want to play it. Lost two sleeves of balls in the first two holes. Went to teeing off with a five iron shortly after that and hit driver maybe twice the balance of the course. This course is INSANE. The only reason I would ever recommend this course to someone is so that when you get to playing a tough course in your neck of the woods, and your buddies start complaining about how tough that course, you'll be able to pipe in, "This isn't tough. Lemme tell you about Ko'olau!". The highlight of the day was when my playing partner got his lunch stolen by a bunch of mongoose when we were parked by the eleventh green. We heard them crunching through the styrofoam to get to his turkey sandwich.

Heaven - Olomana Golf Links . Not a tremendously challenging course, but the scenary is beautiful, and the staff very kind. After the golf equivalent of prison rape the day before, playing Olomana was a welcome break. This is the kind of golf I wanted to play on vacation. They let me go solo, the round was well-paced, and their rental gear was out-freakin'-standing. They set me up with a complete set of brand new Taylormade Burner irons & woods - much, much better than the beaten-up King Cobras I had the day before at Ko'olau. Nice equipment combined with a bunch of short par fours made for the best round of golf I've had in 20 years. Next time I get over to Oahu, playing Olomana will be at the top of my list.

I'll never play Ko'olau again.
