60 yards out, SW in hand, off the back foot, weight slightly favoring my left side. Long slow 3/4 back swing and restricted low follow through, similar to a punch, or another way to thing of it is a slap with the back of the left hand. I don't tend to take a big divot, rather a shallow nip of the turf. And I let my hips and body sync to lead the shot, trying to keep the wrists as passive as possible.
The ball takes off and get maybe 12 feet off the ground. It comes in hot but on 2nd or 3rd bounce the brakes scream on and it comes to a stop on even gets a few inches zip. It's a great shot to play in a wind, especially into it.
I play with a guy off a 2 index. I just marvel at how well and consistently he plays the shot, making it look very simple. He is an aggressive chipper and always gets the spin to hold the ball beside the hole.
It's amazing how much confidence plays a part in this shot. You have to be a tad aggressive, the more you are the more spin you get.
But from outside 60-70 yards it's a no-go for me, unless I drop down to a wedge or a 9 iron. |
Coolest shot in golf. I bring almost all my wedges in low. Love the skip, hop, and stop. This season I bought 48-06* and 52-08* spin milled Vokeys. That shot from 60 to 80 works great with the 52*. I hit knock downs with the 48* out to 110 and it will even work down to 70 yards depending on the lie and green. People here are probably getting sick of me talking about those two wedges, but they are absolutely the cat's asses. The 58-08* is the third cat's ass. Second time I've talked about them here in the last two days.
