Geek VS. 905R

As bad as I'm swinging I shouldn't "review" anything but maybe that's the best time. Anyway here goes after playing both drivers.

Distance: The Geek wins here but not as much as I thought, maybe 5-10 yards. Both go pretty long (for me) when I manage to put a decent swing on.

Control: The 905R wins this easily. Straight hits every time down the middle. No fairways missed with it (yet).

Feel: The 905R is heavier which I like. Very similar to the Rapture. The Geek feels light to me and I don't make as good, consistent face contact. Both feel GREAT when I hit them right though.

Conclusion: I've got two great drivers, equal to or better then the Rapture (thank God) and I'm keeping them both. When I play a links course (more open) and need some distance I'll play the Geek. When I'm on a tight course (narrow tree lined fairways) I'll definitely play the 905R. I'm satisfied with these clubs but not with my swing. Lot's of work to do.

What did you think of the YS-6?

I knew you would love this combo. Your driver hoing days are over... well maybe not over, but at least stablized.

Sell the geek and get some more mad money for them FW shafts and a new putter

And when it's somewhere inbetween - not too tight, but not too open - you can break out the Rapture!

Or just buy another new one - and probably get the old one back too so he has a gamer and a spare, or a 9* and a 10*, etc, etc

Course by then they will have come out with the "Rapture2", or maybe "Enlightenment", and he'll have to get that one.

Heck, if they ever come out with a club called "Nirvana", I'll buy it...

I think the time for an 'intervention' is when he starts buying drivers and getting them bent to fairway wood, iron and wedge lofts just so he can carry them all in his bag...

As Gary Coleman used to say, "Whatchu talkin bout, VT?"

WBL is a certified driver Ho. He will be swayed by the power of the next Ping release. He will have at least one if not two new drivers by this time next year.

His master has taught him well. His teachings are completed and he is now close to attaining the title of "master" himself.

Lot's of good suggestions in here... I love the YS-6+ shaft. Feels just like the YS-7+ in the 3-wood now and that is a GOOD feeling! Seems just as long as anything else I've hit (for me).....

(ualtim, I'm really trying hard not to look at anymore drivers.... I'm into putters now )

I've been wallowing in mediocrity for a month. Just had my best driving day of the year. Played 18 holes up "nort" with sssmokin and shot a couple 43's for an 86. My normal score "finally". And thanks to the 905R. Straight and long all day. sssmokin has me on swingspeed by at least 5 mph (95-105 mph vs 100-110 mph) and I outdrove him on a couple holes and stayed pretty close on the rest. We had some long ones out there (no, not 300 yards but 280-290 is pretty good for 60 year old men). And I was ALWAYS in the fairway and he put a couple off. (We tied at 86 dammit).

(Putting not great and long irons not great. Chipping much improved and sand play not great. Plus good driving and Hybrid's = 86)...

Forgot!! Now that I'm playing decent I can give a "better" review on some balls....

Nike ONE black - best ball I played all weekend

TopFlight D2 Distance - good water ball

Tour Fire - Great ball!! Not "quite" at the level of Nike One or Cally HX Tour or Bridgestone, but very close.

Wilson 50/50 - sucks

Nikent hybrids - MONEY!!

WBL forgot to mention that on the 2 drives he got me (not by much), I was in the fairway and he was just off.
