Ball finding glasses.

Has anyone tried these things out? I picked up a pair at K-Mart today for $10, figured why not? Do they actually work at all or maybe just a little bit? Too much snow on the ground for me to try them out right now.

Reading reviews it seems like more folks are on the "they don't work at all that well" side. Hell for $10 they might be good for a laugh if nothing else.

Are they just polarized glasses or what?

My grandsons gave me a pair for my birthday. Golf balls show up as very brite white and everything else is the same drap color which does make balls easier to find, except when the sun is in front of you. This makes leaves also look brite white as they are getting glare from the sun.

The real problem finding golf balls (for me and a lot of others I think) are the ones that nestle down into the rough or hide under leaves. Optical solutions won't help much there as you can't see any of the ball to begin with.

With the advances in RFID tag technology I see a time in the near future where golf ball manufacturers will embed an RFID tag into their balls and you can get a RFID reader/detector that will locate the ball within say 6-10ft.

I know for a fact that several golf ball manufacturers are working on this, based on information I've gotten from the RFID manufacturers. They won't tell me who though...

I have no idea if it will catch on or not but I'm pretty sure you will see golf balls with this technology on the market sometime in the next few years.

Agreed 1001%, but hopefully if even a tiny bit of the ball may be visible in some way maybe these things will help. I know there have been times while looking for a ball, I have actually finally found it sitting right in front of me & once I knew where to look it was easily visible. But with grass, trees, plants, etc it gets so confusing to my old eyes.

Quantum nanocomputers will be embedded in each ball. They will be powered by advanced viral batteries and will communicate each shot's launch data and position to a tracking receiver on your bag.

And I'll still be a hacker...

Unfortunately, this would render the balls non-conforming.

As of today, yes. But never understimate the power of the almighty manufacturer's $$$ and golfers themselves. Look in a typical golf bag today and you'll find many things that were "non-conforming" at some point in time, some fairly recently.

I'm not sure I'd ever play balls with an embedded RFID chip but it [b]would[/i] solve a few problems and I'm not sure where it would give any golfer a competitive advantage. It would help locate balls (good for a recreational golfer) and also provide a unique serial number for balls (which could help in identifying a ball).

It's funny, I'm a tech guy (I do electronic design and development work for a living) and I'm not all that keen on technology being introduced to golf. I do have a SG3 GPS and a swing speed radar but that's about it. I could live without the GPS but virtually no courses around here have yardage books so that makes a decent substitute.

I bought a pair earlier this year for under $20. Surprise, surprise. I will simply say that they will make the ball stand out more. Although they really only seem to work well if it is a really bright and sunny day. So unfortunately in our area this last year, it was either not sunny enough alot of the time, I was to far in the woods where it blocked it blocked most of the sun, or I was messing around with the Scout Golfball finder that I had earlier in the year, which was truly an expensive POS and went back for refund.

They work better than the $150 Scout golf ball finder, which is not saying much. I would imagine they would be pretty good if you use them things such as heavy rough and tall grass. I can't say that they really did much for me in the woods unless it was extremely sunny.

I did find a few balls with them in the woods on really bright days, unfortunately I don't recall them ever being responsible for ever finding my own. Kinda strange, we had alot of overcast this year.
