Mizuno MX500

OK, my latest driver arrived the other day and I finally got to play a round with it today. I'd have rather gotten a trip to the driving range in 1st, but they are all closed around here for some stupid reason. Anyway, I got the Mizuno in a 9.5* with a Graffaloy Prolaunch Blue Stiff. My 1st lick with it I blocked my swing a bit and pushed it off to the right. But it took off like a rocket and flew straight as an arrow, it would have landed in the adjoining fairway except it flew to far and landed in the pond which is a good 275 from the 1st tee. 2nd hole I lined up aimed to the left to play my usual fade/slice, again, straight as an arrow into the wet short rough just off the fairway. No roll of course, but I was left with a lob wedge to the green of around 40 yards on a 307 yard hole. I won't bore you with the rest of the round, I never could seem to trust the fact it was going to fly straight, and I did manage to hit a few power fades, but this thing is sweet. I found I had to tee it up a bit lower than my HiBore XL and I'm not sure it's going to be quite as long as the HiBore but with this shaft, it is definately more controlable. It has a more muted solid sound to it than the HiBore does but it has the traditional look at address many prefer and will fly a mile with a nice mid tragectory. All in all I was very pleased with my 1st round with it. I'm taking it to my lesson tomorrow and a range session afterwards. I'm anxious to see how it rolls on a dry course, it had rained all morning before my round today. But this thing has a definate shot at replacing the HiBore in the bag, at least until the HiBore is reshafted, but I think the 9.5 suits me better than the 10.5 does so we'll see.

The MX500 is a really underrated stick that flies below the radar. They can be picked up for a song these days which will hopefully get more folks taking a look at them.

Your comment about tee height surprises me though. My understanding was that the HiBores had to be teed lower than your avg 460 drvers. (may have just been the original that I read that about) As far as distance goes, don't give up on the MX500 until you've really gotten comfortable with it. Who knows, once you're comfortable and fully releasing the club you may find that it out flies the HiBore.
