Picked up the s58 (blue dot, zz65) demo 6 iron yesterday ($5).

I've been messing around with the TLT specs on my KZGs but I've also been doing a lot of drills for my swing. I regripped my i5's last week and took them to the range over the weekend. It turns out that the success I've been having has more to do with the drills than the TLT; in fact, I hit the PINGs better than I've been hitting the KZGs.

So, I threw the i5's in the bag and played hooky from work yesterday afternoon. You speak of your honeymoon period but I never really had one of those with my i5's (my swing was in the toilet when I got them and has remained there for the last nine months; up until about three weeks ago). Anyway, yesterday I hit the i5's better than I ever have! My distance control was pretty damn good (for me anyway) and I even managed to successfully work them a bit into/with the wind (it was about a 1-1.5 club breeze). There's now no doubt in my mind that they are the irons for me and I am absolutely done messing around with irons. The only exceptions would be maybe picking up some zz65 shafts (local guy has pulls in stock) and the s58 6 iron which I will use to keep my swing (and ego) in check.

Good luck with the s59's and I hope that you continue to love them through the summer. I know I'm very much looking forward to the rest of the year with my i5's!

I haven't gotten a chance to hit it yet. I literally went straight from the car to the first tee yesterday. I will hit the range this weekend with my son and will report back.

I stopped at Capone's Golf Academy/Driving range yesterday to replace the "Pittsburgh Steelers" grip on my S59 PW with a Ping grip (that's where I bought my G5's and get lessons) and asked "Bobby" (scratch golfer PGA pro) what he thought of S59's and he said he couldn't hit them. Gulp. I hit them just fine. And I suck.

I'd also like to know what Bobby's definition of couldn't him them is as I'm sure it differs from mine (ours). I have a 10-cap buddy that hits them quite well but then again he's not a 10 because of his ball striking.

Well WBL we sure have gone different routes. I have dropped the players irons all together and gone back to a big, forgiving, offset iron. I dont have the time to practice like I once did and these are so easy to hit its laughable. The offset assures your hands well be well ahead of the clubhead at impact resulting in nice crisp, high, powerful shots. I also added X100 shafts to the mix and I think I could get around in 80 with a blind fold on now.

I don't know if this is the way to go or not but if I hit these as good as the G5's I'm no worse off. I think Bobby was talking about very precise iron shotmaking that I would have no concept of...

Wished you didn't swing backwards Lyle. I'd love for you to try these when you come down.

Just take a torch, pop the head off, then glue it back on upside down.

I think that's a smart move, Lyle. I was going to get S58's, but I'm hitting my G5's so well now, that it would be stupid. I could care less if my bag doesn't look like a "players bag" to other golfers. It's the results that count.

LOL, I know, its getting hard to keep up isn't it.

I still have the Ravens and I really like them. They are pretty damn demanding though, and I just doubt I will have the time to devout to practice they need.

I built my set of ACER xp905 irons from Hireko. I threw in a set of TTDG x100 shafts, frequency matched them, added a 10g tip weight to them and cut them to TLT series 4 specs. They are mindlessly easy to hit and keep my hook under check. My wedges are still the Maltby's in 56 bent to 54 and a 60 both with x100s as well. In my woods I have been experimenting with steel again and getting good results but now have been trying a fuji Zcom MW74 in X flex that I am really bombing with about a 10 yard draw. So for the time being it will get the nod. Woods still have the Creations in them and everything is TLT spec, starting with the 43.5 inch driver.

I dont care anymore either. I just like to get out and hit it hard and have some fun. I played my first round of the year and shot 79, and my chipping was rusty as hell. These are just so easy to hit, and I cant be bothered to pound balls anymore. My back and elbow just cant take it.

are the xp905's that much easier to hit than the snake eyes 600xc's you had?
