Ping S59

Played these for the first time yesterday and will again today. They set up so much nicer then the G5's with the thinner top line, much less offset and smaller head. They inspire confidence.

Of course I've got my early season "overswing" going at the start of the round with the lower body all out of sync with the top half and I'm not hitting them very well. After about 9 holes the light goes on and I slow things down and get a little tempo going. Eureka! All is well. I'm not going to say they're the Holy Grail of irons but they're not that hard to hit compared to the G5's and the results are much better. And they feel really good when you pure one. I believe if you hit forgiving game improvement irons for any length of time they make you lazy and you get sloppy because of the ease in hitting them. Hopefully these will keep my swing on track and I can get more consisting scoring.

I'm not hoping to be a scratch golfer at this point in my life but just be confident I won't have one of those blowup rounds. These seem to be a means of achieving that. Wish me luck!

If (after playing them again today) anything is better or worse I'll add that info...

(Pictures are in the picture section under "my NEW bag 2008")...

WBL you do mean that the g5s are more forgiving?

I'm quite interested to see how things pan out with these. So, what made you jump over the i series and straight to the s?

Nice... sounds like you are just looking for reasons to ho.

Personally I think your logic is ludicrous, but if you like your new irons, I hope you have great success. Don't sell the G5s yet

Just re-read my post and I was offended by my own comments

WBL - I hope you understand that I am not criticizing your game nor your decision to play these sticks. Good luck with them.

I was in the shop today looking at new irons and the dude was really pushing the Ping S58s and was also pushing the DGs300.

I missed your "offensive" meaning with your thread VT but dammit, don't let it happen again!!! (And yes, my logic IS usually ludicrous)...

Let's see if I can remember the questions...

Yes, I skipped over the i series to the S because every forum I've read reviews in say the S59's are easier to hit.

I played another 18 with sssmokin today and I HIT THESE IRONS BETTER THEN I HIT MY G5'S. I can't explain it but it's true. Best pickup I've made this year so far behind the Sumo2. And they are easier for me to hit then the G5's. And probably will have a much better affect on my score. I had low score of our foursome today! Yes... ME!!!

And the G5's are gone....

Weren't you having some issues with the bounce on the G5's not that long ago? It sounds like the narrower sole and reduced bounce might work better for your swing.

Exactly. Also the less offset appears to help. No fat shots so far. Only one thin one. Because the edges are so thin it seems much easier to square the club up on line at address also. And the distance is so consistent.

G5's are gone because I traded them for these S59's...

Took the risk and it's paying off.

Wow, that is risky but I'm glad to hear that it is paying off!

I'm actually picking up a s58 demo 6 iron today. I just love the looks of these but I hope I don't fall in love becaues it would be impossible to talk SWMBO into letting me get another set.

WBL - I'd like to hear your impression of the Nippon shafts. How do they feel to you? I'm always interested in hearing whether my description of a golf product is valid - particularly when my opinion plays a role (albeit a small role) in their purchasing decision. Thanks.

I think those shafts are a big part of why these are working so well. Light but still heavy enough. I haven't played them enough to really be an expert on them but I'll let zaphod try them this summer and get his opinion. He's hit Rifles, Project-X Rifles, and probably maybe even these. I am so happy with these things right now. Hopefully the honeymoon will continue...
