Golflogix GPS

Well, here goes. Played 18 at Waushara CC and started on the Westwoods 9. Hit a decent drive. Yardage to center of green was very different from what the white stakes said. I went by the GPS and put it pin high on the green with my 2nd shot. Not having played for a week, my putting sucked......3 putt for a bogey. What was great was it gave yardage from the tee to the doglegs, fairway bunkers, and also how far to the 100, 125, and 150 yard layups. On the second hole, I laid up 100 yards out. Put my 2nd shot pin high on the middle tier of 3 level green, 8 feet from the pin. 2 putted for par. 3rd hole I hit a decent drive, and according to the GPS was 100 yds out. While going past the white 150 yd stake, I checked the difference, and the GPS said 167. Quite a difference, I'd say. It was very windy (25mph gusts), so I missed some greens, but distance was perfect. I was pin high all day long. Ended up with a 40 on Westwoods, then moved on to the Lakeview 9. On Lakeview the sprinkler heads, and 150 yd stakes averaged about 5 yds shorter than what the GPS said. I went by the GPS, and had a 34 going into the 9th hole. I screwed that up by going into the trap, and ended up with a 6 for another 40. But I love the damn thing. I purchased the $29/year deal but not necessary if you don't go over 30 courses. Easy to download and easy to use. My best ho' of the year by far.

Very Cool. I've seen the infomercial and wasn't that impressed but this review is giving me something to think about.

i know what you mean sssmokin.i bought a SG 2.5 and although it is only maped by someone else the yardages are very accurate.the other night during league my partner was deciding what to hit i told him its 133 to the front as the pin was near the front.he snapped back "dont be stupid the 150 marker is right there."i explained to him that they measure to the center not the front.he changed clubs and ended up 12 feet away.

love the gps.but i did play today without it and played pretty well.

When I got mine, and went to download my home course, it wasn't even in their list. So as they said, I requested the course be added, and they "map" it by satellite..............it was in in 5 days. Unbelievably accurate. On the 6th hole of Lakeview course, it's a par 5 that's been my "nemisis" for years. I hit a nice drive, and the Golflogix said it was 219 to the center of the green. I hit my baffler pin high to center/right side of green, and 2 putted for birdie. It gives me that confidence of knowing the yardage is right so I just go ahead and execute the shot. It's great.

I am going to buy one of these damn things (GolfLogix, SkyCaddy 2.5 or SonoCaddy), just because I hate having to go looking for yardage markers etc.

I know my home course very well and it's a pretty simple track, but I'd love to have one of these things for when I go home to NS on vacation. The issue is my courses are not listed in the database. I don't want to buy this thing and then have them not map them. Ssmokin, are you able to make a query for a guy

Glad to. PM me your course name, website link, your course phone number, complete address.....city, etc., and I'll do a check. If it's not in there, I'll put in a request. I don't know what brand you plan on buying, but if it's not in the Golflinx list, it might be in one of the others. The reason I got a Golflinx, was that you can get last years' model at Amazon.com for cheaper. It's powered by Garvin, and that's why they can map new courses by Satellite. They've been around for awhile.

VtDivot................if this is your course (found it in thread of home course links in "pictures" forum), then it's in the database. I did a search.

If anyone else wants to check if their course is in the Golflogix database, check here:

Ssmokin - yup. My home course as well as pretty much all of the other courses I play here in VT are mapped.

I am interested in about 4 that get heavy play when I am back in Nova Scotia for 3 weeks.

I will PM you info.
THANKS!!

Also when they mapped your course for you did they map just the tee to green yardages or go in depth with the bunkering and other hazards?

Gotta be honest Vt, if it is mainly for travel or courses you do not play alot, I would probably go with the range finder. You don't have to plan ahead and can do it spur of the moment not needing to know what course you intend to play. Don't have to worry about the accuracy of someone else plotting or mapping the course.

If it is mainly for a home course, or a course you have some familiarity with, I would go with the GPS, you can confirm the points and know from there on out, plus you do have a pretty good idea on the accuracy just at first glance. Download the course you normally play, then no cost after that point. Just my .02 cents, as when I travel I use both but usually find myself falling back to the range finder. When at home, I never pull the range finder from my bag except for practicing short game.

Although if you do decide on the GPS, be aware that many allow you to plot your own, and the main reason I went with the iGolf. The others had none of the courses in my area. It was the only one at the time that had that option. That and it had he option to save the file to the PC, So I downloaded the 50 local course to my pc and never have to pay membership fees again. Two options I would first look for and require on any GPS

EVERYTHING was in there...........bunkers, doglegs, water hazards, out-of-bounds..............and you don't have to look for it by hitting ten buttons...........it just "tells" you. I'll attempt to put those Canada courses in for you in case you buy one.

BTW, as you noted it's going to be interesting checking actual yardage, both what I hit as well as what the courses have laid out. I swear some of them have it off big time. I can hit 2 identical drives on 2 different holes & one will be 220-230 according to the markers, & yet the other one will be claiming 180 yds.

Good ho'ing, WG. You won't be sorry. I couldn't believe how the yardage markers were off...........especially on the Westwoods course. I was talking to the clubhouse manager about it, and they might be getting one of these to redo the yardage markers. He knew they were off. They were measured by old men members with a stretching tape measure several years ago. This is mapped by satellite (Garvin) and hard to dispute.

The last line here kinda sums it up for me. I've only used mine once, but I can already tell that the front, middle, back of green distances are going to be very helpful as far as picking clubs. I think its a great toy, can't wait til my 330 t time to use mine again. Very accurate, to within a yard or two.
