Topflite "Gamer" ball

Picked up a couple sleeves of these to try. Played a quick nine. Played the best nine holes of my life (using this ball). Don't know how much this ball contributed but it's a GOOD ball.

Supposed to be soft. Felt kind of hard
Straight and long off the driver (for this time of year and wind)
Stops on the greens
Okay with the putter

I'm going to buy a dozen and play this awhile. At least until it warms up.

Hard huh? Sounds kinda like a TM Burner TP. I hated those as you all know. I think it'll be Titleist $9.97 X-Outs for a while.

I hate the Gamer, tried one for a little bit yesterday & for some reason thos eballs just don't work for me. Used the Freak, a D2 distance & TM Burner TP's with no issues at all.

Gamer is supposed to replace the "feel" right?

Wouldn't mind comparing them side by side and seeing how they stack up as I still have a ton of feels left. I liked the feels a lot. The Nike Power Distance are doing pretty good for me right now though. I played with the same one for 13 holes, used a B330 for 2 holes and went back to the Nike Power Distance Soft because I hated the B330. It scuffed up too bad, and didn't like the feel of it. This is most likely the rare case I'll take a $20/dozen ball over a $50/dozen.

What was the temperature like when you played? I know we have similar swing speeds and for some reason almost any ball feels hard to me if it's less than about 70 degrees. That's one of the reasons I tend to like balls that have a softer cover and core. I think if you have a 110+ mph swing you can hit rocks and it doesn't matter...

I would agree with all your other comments though. It's a damn good ball, especially for $20/doz.

I think it's supposed to replace the D2 Feel although I'm not sure the big box stores won't be selling all three flavors of the D2's for a long time. I hope so as I like the D2 Feel a lot, especially for the $. On a similar note, I wonder if the Freak is suppoosed to replace the D2 Distance ball?

I played a D2 Feel and Gamer side by side on the little executive course I play. I only hit two drives with each (I usually don't hit any drivers as the longest holes are like 275 yds. across water) but I wanted to see how they stacked up against each other. I thought the Gamer was a little longer and hotter off my driver face. I definitely spun the ball more with irons and wedges but not excessively (which is what I want, controlled spin -- drop, hop and stop). Other wise I thought they were pretty similar.

I agree on the distance. Very similar to the D2 feel but to me they seemed a little longer off the tee. And very straight.

And it was low 60º's here. I sure wish it would warm up.

How does the ZurS compare? I've heard so many good things about the Srixon balls but haven't gotten a chance to play them. In regards to the D2 Feel, how does the ZurS feel?

I've tried every premium ball out except the "new" TM's and Callys. The Zur-S is as good as any. Better then all IMHO. Much better (softer) feel then the Gamer or D2's. Not even close.

I putt pretty damn well with the hard as a rock Freak. I have noticed the Gamer I was using for a few holes last week ended up getting pretty chewed up & I tend to be more of a picker as well, although am working on changing that.

I tried a sleeve of the Z-URC today (the last few rounds I've played pretty well with the Z-URS), and I have to say taht I am really pretyt immpresed. I had 13 putts for 9 holes, which was terrific for me (although I still shot 43), but I think that I had more control of my short game with the ZURC than with the ZURS (althouhg I felt like i had more control o vre my game today than the other day when I shot 48).

I want to try the Gamer, but have not yet gotten around to buying any. For now, I have something like 5 sleeves of Srixon balls (from the ZURC and ZURS to the Soft Feel) and about a dozen and a half of UTRI Tours and Pro V1's that I got for christmas.

I'm glad you had a good round with the Gamer, WBL!

P.S. 7 whiskey & cokes and typing isn't an adventure I want to tackle every night.

Bought a dozen two weeks ago. Doesn't fit me anywhere near as good as the Zur-S. I'll try the B330. sssmokin loves those things.

If this is true, it makes no sense to me. Based on Top Flite's past history, their "Feel" golf balls are their softer versions, and are usually even marketed as what would be directed towards women or a lower speed compression ball. To replace their softer version ball with a 3 piece ball just makes zero sense to me.

Not saying this is not the case, but just giving an opinion. Probably because it is the ball my wife uses, as well as the ball I would use in cold weather. If they are replacing it with a 3 piece ball, and not coming out with a softer 2 piece version, it would seem they are cutting off their nose to spite their face when they finally did something right and came out with golf balls that eliminate their long history of the deserving title of "Top Rock"

I know from a business standpoint, unlike me, my wife does not like switching golf balls often outside of their updated models. If they consider a 3 piece ball an update, they will likely be soon going back to their old status symbol of "Top Rock"

To put it in perspective, that would just seem similar to Maxfli saying they intend to replace their Noodle with a Tour Fire. Which if they did, they would kill a good portion of their customer base. In which they would likely lose all of the Noodle customers, and as the Ego is a common symbol in golfers, they could likely lose part of the Fire players as well, in not wanting to be associated with using what is many times known as a womens golf ball replacement.

May as well use the slogan "The Gamer puts the Rock back in Top Rock"

Not quite, but I didn't like the Gamer at all. Both the Feel and the Distance are straighter, longer, and feel better. I think the Gamer is a failure.
