Adams Idea Pro hybrid

Ok, I finally invested in one of these. I purchased a used 20 degree with a VS Proto reg flex shaft. I got to play one round with it with the VS in it. This is probably the best retail offering head/shaft hybrid I've experienced. Lovely feel and sound. Since I do not play graphite or regular flex, this combo is now benched. I installed a True Temper Black Gold steel shaft before this weekends round, and I gave it a go. Here's what I think:

Look: Perfect, perfect, perfect. Slightly open club face, and just the right size. Not big, but not iron small.

Feel: Again, perfect. Sounds very solid, like a steel fairway wood. Sounds like a Titleist 980f with a slightly hotter face. About the same feel, as well. Really solid.

Distance: Hmm, perfect. I was looking for a distance, wanting to replace my three iron. I got it right almost instantly. The steel shaft, cut to the length of my four iron, provided a swing weight that matches my irons, and a distance that covers what my three iron should. We lasered a flag on the range before the round. It happened to be 213. I hit this club what appeared to be about pin high a couple of times.

Forgiveness: This club is not for choppers. Probably the most unforgiving hybrid I have hit, which is still more forgiving than most super game improvement irons. Still takes a bad swing to really mishit it. Distance loss is more quickly noticed than my Tour Edge.

Directional control: I had trouble pulling this one on a day I had trouble pulling my three wood. Think they might play the same. That's good!

Summary: This thing absolutely looks like what I want to play, so I'm determined to figure it out. I think it requires a smooth, consistent swing. I already love it, now I need to gain some confidence in it. I'll get there. When I do, it might become my favorite club. Just a perfectly balanced, fine looking piece.

BTW: This is the best club I've ever hit from the rough. Amazing that they made a hybrid that works from the rough, but this one goes. Sole just cuts right through the stuff.

Adams make quality hybrids, apparently this one is tougher to hit than the average hybrid.

I agree with everything you say Clugnut. I bought a 20* Idea Pro a couple weeks ago. It was actually the first hybrid I ever bought. Always had a 2 iron before that but figured I would give one a try. It's soo much easier to hit I feel like it's cheating. The only thing I don't like is it seems to go a little too high sometimes.

I had an 18º with VS Proto R and it was one of the worst clubs I'd ever tried to hit. Buddy of mine felt the same way about it. Simply didn't suit me at all.
