New Equipment Reviews.

Well I just wanted to write a few reviews on some of the changes I have made to my bag this year. I put in a 10.5 Hibore XL with a Pershing X flex, I took out my Rifle 5.5’s and put in X-100 shafts, and have been trying some new balls mainly the Bridgestone B330s. We have been playing for about a month now this year in Minnesota it’s been cold but the last week has been pretty nice outside. I wanted to give these new changes a few rounds and range sessions before I started drawing conclusions.

Hibore XL: I went to Golf Smith over the winter and hit a bunch of drivers on the launch monitor and the Hibore had the best numbers, mainly because it had the best spin ratio for me 2600-3000. I hit a 9.5 during my demo with a launch of around 10.5 so I went with a 10.5 to bring the launch up a bit. I usually have always hit an 8-9.5* driver and I do hit my Hibore higher than I’m use to but it doesn’t balloon on me even into a head wind, unless a make a bad swing. I’m getting good distance with it as long or longer than any driver I’ve had and it has a huge sweet spot. My swing was a little rusty and my misses at first were some snap hooks or big draws that I had a hard time controlling. Overall I have gotten pretty use to this club and hit it pretty straight. I like the high launch low spin aspect of this club I just wish it sat dead square instead of a few degrees closed. I know they have a Tour version but the 3* open face scared me a little because I could only hit a straight or fade ball with my 425 tp that was 1* open. Overall it’s a good club still in the Honeymoon stage I think.

X-100: As Manchester said in a thread they are SUPERB!! After getting on the launch monitor at GS I got the solid proof that I need to go to X flex in my iron shafts. I had a 95-100mph 6 iron swing speed. I have always played stiff shafts for years because most people at stores said that unless you hit your 6 iron X amount of distance you shouldn’t be playing X’s. I was always borderline in-between X and stiff using that criteria so I always went with stiff because I was scared of distance loss. I have lost some distance maybe 5 yards carry at most but the dispersion and accuracy I have gained is crazy good. I carry my 9 iron now about 140 and before it was about 145 but I can take dead aim at my target and feel very confident. They don’t feel harsh at all they feel very smooth IMO. Hands down it is the best equipment move I have made in a long time.

B330s: I have been giving this ball some serious run for the last couple of weeks. I have been playing the Prov1x the last few years and I wanted a ball that performed similar but at a cheaper price. While I like this ball off the driver it just doesn’t compare to the ProV1x around the greens. I spent a lot of time with the B330s on the practice greens and tonight a gave it a side by side run with the 1x on my local par 3 course. With the B330 on short iron and full wedge shots it will land and take a few hops forward not a big deal but it sucks if you’re a little long and it runs off the green. With the ProV1x it will usually hit and stop or spin backwards a few yards it will hold a green much better. When I chip or pitch with the B330s I have to play it to run out a lot more than the 1x. Again its not that big of a deal but when you short side your self to the pin sometimes you just don’t want to play the ball to run out that much. Overall it’s not a bad ball but the spin is just slightly better than a noodle or Dt Solo around the greens. I guess my dream of finding a ball that plays like the ProV1x for under 40$ will continue.

Lostgolfballs.com should provide you with much cheaper V1x's.

Good information. You got me wondering about X-100's. That's all I need x_x

I get plenty of spin with the B330 ball, and even more with the B330S, to the point that I am playing the B330 more often now to avoid pulling the ball back too far.

Thats why your a pro

I guess I was a little harsh comparing the B330s to a Noodle or the DT Solo but I just can't get the spin with it like I can with a 1x. I don't play this shot all the time but I can't play a low skip and stop shot with the B330s like I can with the 1x.

Didn't mean it like that, only that the B330S is a higher spinning ball of the two options whereas the 1x is a lower spinning version of the two balls from Titleist, so it is a little odd that you would generate enough spin with the 1x but not the S, had you said the 1x versus the B330 I would tend to agree with you.
