Almost Golf Balls

I picked up a 10pack of "Almost Golf" balls from Point3 for $10. These balls are supposed to react like a real golf ball as to ballflight, fly about 1/3 as far and safe for windows and the like. I've only used them for chip/pitch shots indoors so far but very impressed. The cover is pretty firm feeling and delivers some decent feedback. They are safe for glass and even off a cat's head. I was especially impressed by the trajectory realness off the wedges. I've seen someone hitting them outside. He was hitting a hybrid club full swing near the parking lot at a course warming up. I'm thinking "what the heck is this guy doing". The balls were only flying 50-60yds. or so.

If you are looking for something to practice with in the backyard or even indoors like I'm doing, these are it.

Hit a drive with one. Sometimes they balloon so high you can't find them, sometimes they nose dive into the ground. Not consistent at all. A punch shot, forget it. I like hitting them into a net though, you get a similar feeling to a real ball.

I have those too. Got them two years ago after seeing videos on You Tube of kids playing golf with a small mat of astroturf in different places in NYC. They work surprisingly well and do actually duck hook just like my drives.

I got some when I got the Pelz book Damage Control. I never really use them because my yard is not really big enough unless I were to hit into the woods. I did try them out on the course and found them to have a fairly consistent flight. Never tried the Driver though. I figure the closest place to home I could use them is the course, for which I would rather just hit normal balls.

I may try them out a bit more and use them this winter to practice my pitching and chipping.

I just hit 3/4 60* wedge off the wall, oops. I'm really liking them just to practice low trajectory pitch shots with my 54 and 60. I've got a love seat on one end and 25' across to the futon. I just try to hit the back of the couch or futon. It's obviously a good shot to try to master.

I can see it now... your next "futon" session... "Wait! Wait! Stay right there, I need to go grab my 54 and some Almost Balls!"
