Review Mania

ok, gonna go over the clubs in my bag

TM Burner 420 8.5*
this thing refuses to get out of my bag. especially since i had the X flex GD YS-6 shaft put in. i've gained maybe 5 yards in carry distance and another 10 in roll. for being an oversized driver, some mishits can be mistaken for pured shots, then others will put you in places you never thought possible. interesting sound. good looking, i like the alignment ridges on the crown to help me taking the club back straight every time. if i had to change anything about this club, i'd go for the 9.5* next time. very solid club, have gotten my $110 out of it for sure.

TM V-Steel 3w and 5w 15 &18*'s respectively
taylormade was spot on with these clubs, good accuracy, good distance, a ballflight to die for and just plain sexy looking at address. the 3 wood is my favorite club, its good from 230-265, and i can work it if need be. good feel on pured shots, yet deceptively forgiving on your not so good swings. a job well done to taylormade

Adams Tight Lies GT Tours
this will most likely have to be updated later, but after one range trip i am hooked. precisely what i'm looking for in irons. will force me to strike the ball well, yet help me out on an off day. i love the trajectory these give. so nice and controlled, fun to watch. i can work these just as easy as my blades no problem. distances are the same as my supersteels, gonna help me adjust quickly. very accurate, just point and shoot and have fun doing so. can't attest to spin as of now, i'll fill you in later after these get hit at some greens. these will be my irons for quite some time. don't think a reshaft is necessary yet, but i still might

Adams Tom Watson G,S,L wedges
players that have played premium wedges woudn't like these, but they were a step up from my $20 walmart wedges, smaller head than most wedges i believe, pured shots feel great, off center hits still work wonderfully in most cases, these spin like none other and are really easy to control. i could be good with any wedges inside their distances, but i choose to stick with these b/c they flat out perform.

Odyseey Rossie 2 DFX
was never a good putter, but things have changed slightly thanks to this club, i had to add some lead tape to it after starting my workout regimen b/c i lost all sense off touch, putts roll true and don't skid or jump after impact. an all around good putter

I'll chip in

Drivers:

Launcher 460. As if this needs a review with all the press it gets here. It's long and straight. Saying more would just distract people. Buy it

R5 TP- Workable yet forgiving, something i dont find in a driver very often, yet it falls short in the distance category. The feel at impact is alright, never really been a fan of TM, and i think it's overpriced for the performance

Ignite 410- Long and workable, but easy to miss in one direction or another. Very good for working shots left or right for a low handicapper, but i would suggest getting the 460 if you're not one of those yet you want the ignite

3 woods:

V-Steel-not the most forgiving club, but it's long and responds well to decent swings. You can't get away with a terrible swing, but a slightly off one won't kill you. It's very workable, but i would like a little more forgiveness

Steelhead Plus. Maybe it's the graphite shaft, but this club just flat out didnt work for me. I'll give it another shot now that range time has become a little more accessible, but i dont think it's hopping in the bag

Hybrids:

Rescue Mids-Got 1 of these last winter. Have 6 now. Haven't tried any others, and thats very wierd for me. Buy em

Irons:

Cobra SS Forged-Still my faves, but getting very worn, and they are going to be replaced soon. I have some Maltby M-05s to try, but if they dont do it, more SS Forged will be on the way. Forged, forgiving, workable, everything you could want is here. Buy em

X-14 Pros-Although they look clunky, they really aren't THAT bad. They make it easy to get the ball up in the air, and you really cant miss shots right with them. I eventually decided to go for some sleeker irons, but sacrificed forgiveness. I'd still recommend these to any over-10 handicap who wants a lot of forgiveness without a full-on hyper-offset shovel

Wedges aren't worth reviewing. If you just want a wedge that is predictable, solid, and consistent, get a vokey or cleveland. If you want a little more finesse, i can't help you, because i like solid, consistent, and predictable, though i would say take a look at the Nike Forged

Putters:

V-MOI Triad, made by Mentor Sports-VERY good putter. If you address a ball normally, this ball will put it in the hole, very consistently. My problem is that if you set up flat, the face opens a tad bit, and i set up flat, so i had issues with it. Once i get a bender i'll give it another shot

2 Ball- See ball. Hit ball. Pick up ball out of hole. If the alignment system works for you, this putter is it. Buy it, and dont look back

Why Not

TM R7 - Long and very workable. Weights are more hype than anything. I screw my driving up every time I F*&# with them. If you don't want to hit draws and fades buy something more forgiving.

TM 200 Steel 18* 5w- Another solid fairway club from TM. I smoked one 240 off the deck with it today on a par 5.

Sonartec MD's - The original and still best in my book. 23* goes 225 on a frozen rope. Easy to hit from any lie. Low punch shot king.

Titleist 690mb's - I am in love again. Ever hit a knockdown fade 7 iron 145 yds. to 2ft.? How bout a 140 yd. 9 iron with 10 yds. of draw to 18 inches? Not off a tee either. If you can imagine it, you can do it with these. Assuming you catch the sweet spot.... which is the size of a friggin dime

Mizuno MP Wedges
  • 50-06 110 yds. into a 5 gallon bucket. Nice 1/2 and 3/4 shot club.
  • 54-10 Finally figured out how to use bounce. Tight lie pitches no longer an issue.
  • 60-05 Unbelievable flops. Chipping down into a fast green, this baby checks up real quick and releases ever so gently.
Scotty Cameron Studio Design 2.5 - Oh so smooth. I feel like David Toms when stroking this putter. One thing is for sure with this putter, it's definitely not the putter's fault anymore.

Here goes...the clubs that are in my ho-house. And I've gotten rid of as many...

Drivers (newest to oldest):

Cobra SZ440 - haven't played with it yet.

TM R5 - good club, haven't played enough with the new Graf NT Comp shaft. Sometimes I love it - sometimes I HATE it.

Cobra SS350 - great club, until I reshafted it. Now can't hit worth a damn.

TM R540 - never really liked it.

Cobra Gravity Back - I hit this club well. It just wasn't new enough, so I had to buy another one.

PowerBilt Persimmon - I keep this for the memories of all the short slices I hit with it.

Fairway clubs:

Cleveland Launcher 4-wood - currently in my bag. Good solid club.

TM R5 5-wood - took it out to meet 14 club limit.

TM 200 Steel 3-wood. Feels great, but can't get the ball in the air. Would probably be one of my favorite clubs if I got rid of the ProLite shaft in it.

Cobra Gravity Back 3,5-woods - Solid clubs. Again - retired due to lack of technological newness.

PowerBilt Persimmon 3,5-woods - "Memmmmm-reeez, of the slice we used to know...."

Irons:

Tommy Armour 845 V-25 - Lovin' these more and more each day.

Cleveland TA-7 - good solid game improvement irons.

Cobra Gravity Back - good solid game improvement irons. Don't know why I quit playing them.

Titleist DTR - my first "real" set. 20 years old.

Ping (originals) - Never played with them. Inherited from my Dad.

Wedges:

Too many to list. Currently trying the Ping Tour 52 and 56.

Putters:

WAY, WAY too many to list. I have my Dad's Bull's Eye that he played with in high school in the 50's. Original leather grip and all. Pretty cool. All the others (except for the Scotty's) are throwaways. I don't know why I keep them...

Ho, Ho, HO !!!
