IG test drives his new Cleveland CG10 52* 2 dot in Black Pearl

As you may know I just scored me a Cleveland CG10 52* 2 dot in Black Pearl finish. In the wrapper! After getting over the "feel like a kid with a new toy, my precious" I thought it was time to get busy with it. So I managed to get out and give it a test run last night.

My impressions? Very nice indeed, I think this one's a stayer. I hit a variety of shots (high cuts and low punches) from 60 and 80 yards out. The ones I hit on the sweet spot felt like butter, flying off the club-face and ripping in hot. I particularly like the feel off the 3/4 swings. Hard to tell spin rates. I don't measure "action" but I was getting the ball to sit down and undoubtedly brand new grooves made a difference. Off hits weren't too bad, but like any club, this has a definite sweet spot advantage and response.

Obviously I still need to dial this bad boy in. Especially in the longer distances but have every confidence that it will perform similarly to the 588 I now have on eBay. I have 60-115 yards in mind for this dude. 100 yards though will be my target stock distance.

The club sits well and has a nice look. The club head is maybe fractionally smaller than the 588, but undoubtedly a Cleveland. I went for the 2 dot and to be honest I don't see (or feel) a major difference between that and my 1 dot 56* in terms of lie and bounce. I play links golf, with tight bare lies so I imagine the low bounce helps, especially with my shallow swing. But the 53 looks like it has a low bounce anyway.

I love the Black Pearl finish but after hitting 50 or so balls it was amazing how much the "black pearl" wore off down to the steel. Sounds like a negative, it isn't just thought it strange. A big negative is that the Cleveland stock grip is tiny! Felt like a ladies grip. It also tore up my hands a bit, so I will swap that out ASAP.

Great club imo 9/10. So now I am just waiting for my 460Ti and that will be me. Roll on May 8th!!!

Thats awesome

My one caveat, there is not a club in my bag I can hit better and more predictably than my 588 diadic 53* so I am not sure that even for another Cleveland I would be willing to risk that.
