scotty cameron question....?

so ive been kinda hesitant in getting a scotty simply for the fact its hard to justify the high price and whatnot

anyways i came across a studio 3 design for very very very very very cheap but it has just a bit of rust on it

quesiton being, is there anyways i can do some minor restoration to get the rust off, without sending back to the custom shop?

i was gonna try come "blue-off" but im afraid it will strip the finish

any ideas would be appreciated

thanks

Do a search for "rust removers". There is one that's a cream that works great.

Also found this...

Cream of tartar, hydrogen peroxide, and a product such as Borax or baking soda can be combined to create a homemade rust remover paste. The Borax or baking soda can be replaced with other similar products because their main purpose is to add grit to the solution without causing damage to the surface when used. To make this rust remover, a teaspoon of cream of tarter and a quarter cup of Borax or baking soda should be mixed with enough hydrogen peroxide to make a thick paste.

The paste should be rubbed onto the rust spot and allowed to stand for 30 minutes. Then, the rust stain should be wiped away with a damp sponge. If the stain remains, the entire process should be repeated.

White vinegar is another rust remover commonly found in homes. When using white vinegar as a rust remover, it should be sprayed directly onto the rust stain and scrubbed in. Then, the area should be sprayed again with white vinegar and allowed to sit for twenty to thirty minutes. After being allowed to sit, the rust stain should come off easily when the vinegar is wiped away.

Yet another homemade rust remover solution is a cup of Borax mixed with the juice from one lemon. This mixture makes a rust remover paste that can be applied directly to the stain. It should sit for twenty to thirty minutes and then be scrubbed clean. It might take a couple applications for this rust remover to be successful, but this concoction is safe for many surfaces, as well as safe for pets and children.

Shouldn't hurt it. But don't hold me to it.

If it's very, very, very cheap, just sand it lightly with some steel wool. Then, coat it in WD-40 or some oil. That'll keep it rustless for a while, but you'll need to keep oiling it from time to time. Alot of those SC's have oiling rags for this purpose alone.

Throw it in the trash and buy an Anser. The day I start polishing a putter will be the day they have me committed and in a straight jacket.Mind you,you can't polish a turd anyway.Over priced and over hyped, but hey,if you hole more putts with a polished putter who am I to argue.

If you want low maintenance, have it nickel plated.

Not being rude, but you're considering buying a really cheap, rusted scotty but not play it? Why are you buying it, then? Seems like a waste of money to me, but it's your money. I say this because if it's really cheap and rusted, it has no show or "wow" value, it's just another putter. Probably a good gamer, but not a looker.

Your money could be spent better if the above is true, IMHO!

Flitz metal polish will be OK on a Black one. Home Depot, Lowes, etc.
Studio 3's are pretty nice but not a collectible. Don't get a lotta love.

How cheap? They sell in the $125 range. with HC plus shipping.

There's a club builder here that does nickel plating. Fairly inexpensive. TEi3s look really good after the plating.
