To Ho, Or Not to Ho, That is the Question (Actually there are 2 questions in here)

I have yet to break 100 and I am sure that I am still going to see some changes in my swing before I finally get into a good solid groove. So I don't want to go to a nice shop and hit a zillion clubs on a launch monitor to find my perfect brand new $500 driver. That said, I have learned enough from Wishon's book and you guys to tune things a little.

Question 1: I have 2 drivers, an R540 with a 12* loft and senior flex shaft and the r7(Stock R flex) in my signature. I average about 10 to 15 yds farther with the r7 than the R540, generally carrying about 210. The r7 definitely hits lower to get farther. I suspect that the better technology face accounts for the better distance. I don't see an appreciable difference in accuracy.

With an iron, I hit a smooth solid 5 iron(28*loft) about 140yds.

Would it be worth my while to get an R580 XD 12* loft with regular flex Graffally shaft? There are a couple on eBay and it seems like a good price/performance benefit.

Question 2: I am interested in tables of optimum carry vs ball speed, launch angle and spin rate. Does anyone have links to tables that list optimum ranges?

BH,

1. No. Save your money and hit what you have. If you find yourself consistent with that, there's no sense reinventing the wheel. (Do you believe I just uttered all that? Cripes! LOL...)

2. You can use this:http://www.sonicboomgolf.com/distanc...ndashboard.swf

I hope this helps a little...

That is where the line gets blurred, do we want or do we need? I have a White Board coming and nothing to put it in...well maybe the Burner TP, but that's a decision for another time.

tmag,

I'll take that WhiteBoard if you don't need it.

I seriously want to try that shaft out....

I've actually been waiting to try it as well, really like the Red but want to see if the White is more stable through the hitting area.

It probably isn't. My suggestion, as your legal counsel and financial advisor, is to send it to me for evaluation.

I think that's gonna be a winner. I really want to try that and the Creation out.

I will definitely keep you in mind if it doesn't push the Red out of the line-up.

So I take it you all agree with Rock. Live with the club I have until I am farther along.

Sorry to go off on a tangent on you. Yes, I would suggest sticking with what you have for now. I played my first driver for three years before upgrading.

Agreed, BH. I apologize for getting off there.

I think you're set with what you have. It's not as fun not hoing some clubs, but sometimes you have what it takes right in your bag.

Now, if we could just teach Ezra that, we'd be laughing.

If you do choose to jump in head first, keep us up to date. It's always good to follow the trials and tribulations of someone trying to find the holy grail.

I just had a vision of of Ezra starring in "Ezra76, the Last Crusade" standing in a chamber with some old knight filled with golf clubs. Ezra grabs hold of another club, swings it, and looks to the old man for sagely advice. The old man speaks. "Ezra, you have chosen ...... poorly, ........ again. What the #$@&%, dude? I am an old man. Just choose the right club already and let me get on with dying."

Ha,ha,ha. Bust my beans will you... I just got $121 for my 510TP Xflex and another $20 for the headcover, BIN under 48hrs. I bought an R7425 9.5* with headcover, tool and 2 extra weights for $120 and a mint R510TP 9.5* with a 757 stiff and TP headcover for $100.

I ho because I'm good at it.

Anyway. I recommend working on the swing some more. The R7 you have is a nice club but not the most forgiving. I'll bet you hit a few nice ones but also send a few wayward shots per round. If you do decide to go with something more forgiving, sell the R7 to pay for it in it's entirety. You'll have no problem flipping the R7 for something like a Hibore 10.5* with a PL blue straight up.

No question there, you are the Ho Master. Selling and buying the same driver is a bit perplexing, but if you net $41 every time you do it I guess there is a method to the madness.

But seriously. The reviews of the r580 XD are great. Is it likely to be more forgiving than an r7? Longer would be nice, but not as critical.
