Adams nomenclature...somebody enlighten me

I see Adams woods referred to as 5050 and 3070 etc. on forums, but on their website I see RPM, RPM LP, tour versions, Ovation, BUL, etc.

What do all the numbers stand for?

Those are Tour Issue prototypes that never made it to retail. They will not be on the Adams website, companies often make clubs that are only used by tour players since most average players will not benefit from them.

4555 and 4060 are supposed to be real sweet fairway woods. i have been waiting for someone to put one up on ebay for a low BIN that doesn't know what they have.

sorry but thats rubbish

There will always be prototypes made so the tour players can test them, but the whole industry around supposed tour issue prototypes being made by every company and then secretly stored somewhere is a myth perpertated by certain people to make money.Tour clubs have different CHARACTERISTICS suited to certain and has nothing to do with being better so to say average players will not benefit from them suggests they are in some way superior, this is utter nonsense.they use the same head moulds and same materials,so every other difference is in weight.

The don't 'often' do anything of the sort, they make personally specced clubs for their tour players and thats it.The guys at BSG would have you believe there is an industry around these clubs, like they are made on mass to better tolerances, higher grade materials blah blah blah.

If this was the case consider one thing. When Tiger goes for to Nike he can feel the difference in swingweight to within a gramme, possibly no other player in the world can detect these differences. So if Nike don't bother to work that hard testing each club electronically for Tiger, they just make them and let him test them, would anyone else bother?

Golf is worth on 4% of Nikes turnover, thats right only 4%.Producing secret clubs so certain people can charge 20k fitting costs using them will not be a numkber one priority.

You are going on a rant against BSG, I never mentioned them. He asked a question and I answered it, there are prototypes that are never released to retail, that is what the 5050, 4050, and all the other numbered Adams fairway woods are. Never said they were better or worse than anything on the Adams website, many of them are very similar, just with a small tweak to them. I simply said the same thing you did by saying "there will always be prototypes made so the tour players can test them."

No,not a rant against BSG,those clowns make me laugh,a fool and his money are easily parted, they can buy what the hell they like. But,if it works it works, its upto anyone what they believe and what they buy.I just wanted some balance to the thread. You can buy a retail club in confidence knowing the whole reputation of the manufacturer rests on THESE CLUBS working well for the buying public. Not one company would a reputation worth jack shit if they saved their best materials and efforts for a secret supply of clubs only available to the lucky few.I accept there are custom made clubs aimed at specific players and of course they will also play one off prototypes to test. But who on earth can use Sergio's E3 425TP with test 18g weigths? No one at all and who would want to?
