Shaft Results

I have read so many threads about which saft to use but what I want to know is, what kind of results or advantages having you gotten from changing your shaft compare to the OE shafts. More Distance....how much? Fairways hit...how many more....with or without more distance? Did your increased distance cause less fairways hit? Did you do it to change trajectory... ..draw, fade, high, low? And has anyone found their stock shaft to be just as good?

I changed the shaft to get a different feel when swinging the club head. The stock shaft in the SuperQuad that I am playing was the 75 gram version of the Rombax shaft, it was a little firmer in the tip section compared to the Diamana Red that I put in. The more active tip in the Red allows me to swing a little easier and still get the whip through the hitting area. This has helped me improve my accuracy by allowing for a more controlled swing. I have also picked up about 7 yards of carry based off of launch monitor numbers using both shafts. I also launch about 1 degree higher with the Red than I did with the Rombax shaft. With so many companies offering alternative shafts as stock options, it is far easier for the average player to get fitted for the proper shaft at the time of purchase. For many players out there, the stock shaft is going to be a pretty good match, they are designed to fit a wide variety of players.

only stock shaft ive found to be "just as good", was the "stock" shaft on the taylormade r7 tp i have. The "stock" in the TPs are either fuji speeders or diamana blueboards, which i dont really consider stock, hence the "...".

I picked up about 10 more carry yards with my new driver shaft, and a lot more accuracy. IMO this shaft delivers on everything it says it can, but it fits my swing and the feel i like out of a shaft (weight down by the head). It also brought my ball flight up, but i still can control it and keep it down if need be. Ive also never had too much of a problem hitting it both ways, and this shaft isnt hurting at all.

Pretty much, if you can find "your shaft", its guna be the longest and fit every criteria in every shape and form for you.

Some rules of thumb (these are not etched in stone and will not work the same for everyone)

YOU NEED MORE DISTANCE, GET A
- softer flex
- softer tip
- longer shaft
- lighter shaft

YOU WANT MORE ACCURACY
- stiffer shaft
- stiffer tip
- heavier shaft
- shorter shaft

YOU HIT THE BALL TO HIGH

- stiffer shaft
- higher bend point
- stiffer tip
- heavier shaft
- heavier total weight

YOU HIT THE BALL TO LOW

- softer tip
- softer flex
- lighter shaft
- lighter total weight

YOU WANT MORE FEEL
- softer overall flex
- softer butt flex
- softer tip
- heavier shaft

These are only based on chinging the shaft. Changing the head loft will have the biggest effect on height and distance.

Great post, Lyle.

CD, you should take Lyle's list here and go hit a bunch of drivers, different shafts, different lofts. You'll know immediately what works and what doesn't. Then, you can use Lyle's cheat sheet there to fine tune.

I personally have found that the shafts with the Nano technology are the most consistent. Maybe not the longest, maybe not the best feeling, but the shafts that deliver that same drive time and time again once you have it grooved. But that's just me.

If you can, get out there and try a bunch. You'll be surprised what works for you, personally. And, what doesn't.

Cheers,

R35

Shocked that someone was looking for sometihng I have to say over the much better explanations of Lyle and Rock. So this is how smart the two of you feel all the time?

Cardog, try and get a Graman shaft through Lyle, ive heard nothing but great things about the shaft and several members here now play them. Im interested in them, but havent pulled the trigger yet. Probly by the summer
