Ebay descriptions

wow, just sorta leafing through ebay. I know there was a thread on this a little while ago, but all the "tour van" and "tour issue" stuff...

I just saw, on like 4 different things, "tour used"....... How does that same more appealing? I guess there are a lot of morons out there... But "just because chucky three sticks or bubba turned the club away after a few shots on the range"....?

I guess its marketing and maybe makes the seller a few extra bucks... But cmon, I guess i could list my r7 tp on there and "claim" that it was one of the first set of r7 tp's out there being tested by pros... lol

Everyone wants a tour serial number. They think it makes the club better. All tour serial clubs have been COR tested to ensure they are within the .830 limit. All other heads are only tested randomly. So by getting a non tour head you always have a chance at getting a hotter face or a head that slightly exceed the USGA limit for COR.

You know, it looks like if there was a "Tour only" Pro V1 the lemmings would pay outrageous prices for them.

Anyone got a home ball stamping kit?

Well, think of it this way.

Would you buy a suit made for Micheal Jordan? You might, if you wanted a suit that was made for Micheal Jordan. But you could never wear it. The same goes for Tour used clubs. A driver or fairway set up for CHIII or Ernie isn't going to work for some dude in BC (no offense). It just isn't.

However, Tour Issue equipment, as long as it hasn't been modified to spec, is usually hand picked and inspected, as Lyle mentioned. Is it better? Nope. Serial numbers are only for tracking purposes, nothing more.

There are the odd prototype that make it to the retail market through back alley channels, and those clubs are more sought after for their rarity rather than their performance. I mean, if they were the cat's ass, why wouldn't they make them?

I've had those 2 clubs that were Sheehan's. Couldn't hit the driver to save my life. The 3w was setup really nice though. Flatter lie and a custom grind that seemed to add a little bounce to it. Had that shaft been an S rather than an X I would have kept it. Also, as Lyle said you have to be able to semi-prove it. The driver had a Txxxx serial and the 3w had no serial. I also have a tour issue Vsteel head that sits dead square, no serial and it has a paint break at the hosel to allow for loft/lie adjustments. I plan on customizing that bad boy to a 13.5* and my perfect lie angle.

No offense taken Rock. I'd never use Ernie's or CHIII's sticks because they arent set anywhere near my specs are. If i remember right Ernie is like 5 inches taller then me, and CHIII is i tinier skinny guy, nothing like how im built to swing a club.

But hey, if Joe the weekend warrior wants to play Ernie's old 3w or something, more power to him, just isnt guna work the way a properly fitted one.
