Shafts

I'm most likely getting a set of callaway steelhead x-14 pros with in the next month, and the shafts have lite spots of rust on them, nothing that will hinder my play, but I'm wondering if either there is anyway to remove these spots, or a place to get a set of cheap, but good iron shafts. Also i really like the grips that are on the club now so i would prefer a method of removing the rust.

Getting a set of Dynamic golds, like S300s, X100s, or R300s and watnot are like 50$ i believe. Tiger still uses x100s. Theyre stock on almost every manufacturer, so i dont think much is wrong with them.

What shafts you have on the x-14s? (great clubs btw)

not sure 100% on the shafts ill know this weekend though. I really like the clubs, and the best part is that length wise they are almost perfect because my friend in only like 1/8 of an inch difference in height.

SOS pads usually clean them right up if the spots are just surface rust. If it has gotten deeper than that I would just replace em.

I found a link somewhere for someone else. There is a liquid wipe on rust remover you can buy in a small container that works great and saves alot of elbow grease. Try a search of "liquid rust remover" (or something on that order)...

When rust is removed wipe down with car wax or something to keep from re-rusting.

Clean those shafts with super fine steel wool. You dont want to replace them as Cally irons are a total pain. Not only are they bore thorughs but the tips are all slotted/split as well.

I think you're talking about "Naval Jelly". I've used it to remove old bluing (which is just a form of rust) from gun parts prior to re-bluing. Works like a charm.

You're the metallurgy expert. Wouldn't rust weaken the shafts, and make them prone to breaking? What about changing the bend profile? Seems to be that rust would cause a stress point, and change the way the shaft bends. I'm not talking light surface rust, but rust that's gotten down past the coating.

Eracer,

You would be suprised if you saw how rusty the inside of most shafts are. After a few years of play they are all rusty inside.

I know that when classic car chrome is rusty, super fine steel wool (per Lyle) is the method of choice. It's what I would do if I were you.
