Setup Opinions

Ok. I'm bagging that R7425 for sure after it's performance yesterday. I'm rethinking everything up to the 5iron now though. The 13* and 17.5* in my sig. have yet to be shafted. What I'm thinking now is to go with a 16.5* non-tp 4wood, a Rescue Dual TP 19* and then either an Adams or Sonartec 23* hybrid. The reason for the TP 19* is no offset, like my irons and the premium shaft they come with. I can easily turn a profit on the heads in the sig. now but once they are shafted and/or get some wear I will take a beating on them.

I've played my 4wood in the 200steel a lot last year with good results. The best qualities of a 3W and 5W. After playing a bunch of rounds with driver/5W/3i I can see where my distance gaps are, this setup would cover all pretty well.

Dude, if you're a long enough hitter (and I think you are) then the 16.5* 4W is the way to go. I carried a 13 and 16.5 combo because the 16.5 wasn't long enough off the tee and I couldn't hit the 13 off the deck. I've since improved my swing and split the difference with a std 15 and added a wedge.

I personally like the idea of one fairway wood and then two hybrids to cover the 2i/5W-4i gap. The only thing currently in my bag that will not make the 07 season with me is the driver.

If it was me I would go with 15* 3 wood, and 19 and 23/24* hybrids. Thats what I'm probably gonna do.

EZ, this is the picture my mind is painting for your bag:

Superduad driver
Vsteel 3wood
sonartec md 19*
muira cb201 3-pw (pick up the 3,4i)
vokey oil can 50,58
wilson staff KC putter

not sure you have the cash for an md, 3,4i's a 3w shaft and a 58* wedge though.

Thanks 19 but I don't think I'm going to use a 3 and 4i. I've been playing that Mp60 3i and it's great off the tee, good 9/10 off a nice lie but I'm very reluctant to pull it a few paces behind the 200marker. I need something I have total confidence in. I'll probably pick up another 23* Sonartec.

Twofast just came by with his epoxy and we shafted up the R7TP 17.5* with the Speeder 857ti. That will be ready for the range on Sunday, hopefully the head doesn't fly off. I'm going to guage how far I'm hitting that thing for a round or 2 and go from there. The 13* head is ready to go also. I've got this insane idea to pull the TP 757 out of the 510TP and drop it in the T/S. That ought to be about 240 and no higher than a doorjam off the tee. Stingertime. lol.

What i did (because I wanted a gap wedge) is I took my 3i and my 5w out and replaced it with just a 3 hybrid in a graphite shaft. When I want my 5w shot I just let that thing rip! I can hit just as far as my 5w and alot easier to do so. When I want my 3i shot, I just grip down alittle and take a smoother swing. I figure if I am more than 200-205 yrds out (4i), I am not going to be that accurate anyways so it is not that critical me to have 2 clubs that takes up the gap between my 4i and 3w......make sense? BTW, I don't have a problem hitting my 3i, I just wanted to find a way to have a gap wedge in my bag.

I tried the 17* 4W for a while so I could carry a 60* wedge, but found my self with some longer distance gaps at the top end of my bag which ended up hurting me on some long par 3's and reachable par 5's. I went back to a Driver, 15* 3W (13* is too strong if you are planning to hit it off the turf unless you get into one of the square ones that launch really high) 18* 5W, 22* hybrid, 24.5* hybrid, 5-PW, 52*, 58*, and putter.

There is always going to be a gap somewhere, but I have found the above configuration to work well for me. I tried it for while in the past and played well with it but got it stuck in my head I needed a fourth 60* wedge and tried that for a while. Amazing enough, after reading Pelz's Short Game bible where he basically demands four wedges, I used some of the techiques presented to learn that I could get by with only 3 wedges.
