Some Launch Monitor fun.

So I went to Dicks today while DW and son went to pick up a birthday gift for a kiddie party we are going to.

I hit:

TM 425 9.5 Re*Ax S
TM 460 9.5 Re*Ax S
Cally 460 X 9.5 Fuji Stock S
Nike Sumo 9.5 Mits Diamana S
Cleveland Launcher 460 ti 9.5 V2 R
FT-3 9.5 Aldila NVS R

While I hate launch monitors and I think most of the numbers are BS, here is what came of the deal.

1. Both TM's had me launching around 18-20*
2. The Diamana in the Sumo seemed to stiff or something
3. The R shafts in the Launcher and FT-3 were too soft, but fun to try
4. My numbers with the 460X were remarkably better (ball speed, swing speed, dispersion and launch angle) than everything else by a mile. It felt really nice too.

While none of this data would be enough to unseat my 905R, I will not be hesitant to demo the non-composite Cally if I feel the need to swap out the chief.

I also got a chance to play around with some of the Odyssey putters they had there. I really like the XG insert, much better than the original white hot. I tried the #7 (Funk Fang) and the #9 (Phil Mallet) They are both of course too light which seems to be the knock on Odyseey putters, but I still enjoyed them. In a pinch I think I could play either no problem

I love my 2-ball mallet with the XG insert. Much better then the other 2-balls I tried. Also very interesting on your "testing" of drivers. I've heard the all metal Cally's weren't that good. (Now if you would have tried a Rapture...).

Went to the indoor sports show this morning. They had a bunch of golf courses out pushing their wares. Alot of good deals to be had, forsure.

There was also a sim demonstration that was offering a $5 for 5 swings, closest to the hole contest. Closet to the hole got $50 and a chance to come back and shoot for $1,000,000 with a hole in one.

I figured, what the hell, it's for charity.

First swing, after warmups, 2.6 inches.

Thank you very much!

Guy said that last year, they had no one inside 7 feet and over 1000 people tried.

Sweetness.

Must be the "Golf show" weekend! I was at the Milwaukee Golf show today and they had the same "sim" deal. I passed on all of that.

I ended up only buying a nice, name-brand rain jacket (for 1/2 off) with sleeves that zip off and reversible (insulated) for $29!! Steal! Oh yeah, and about a ten year supply of Zero Friction tees (good price)... I got about 500 rounds of free or reduced rate golf around the country this summer though. Most at some super nice courses in Wisconsin so the show was worth the trip.

I think you're nailed it, WBL, the Bay Area here has their annual golf show going on this weekend as well.

VT, the new BB 460 is also a solid non-composite offering from Callaway. With that launch monitor, if nothing else you had a control that allowed you to compare the drivers to each other.

There is one coming to Boston in a few weeks. I'm going to get the details. Maybe I'll go if the weather is crap. If not I'll be out playing. My goal this year is to break par, I have a long way to go.

Edit that... it's this weekend, tomorrow is the last day. I'm all set with paying $10 to go and probably another $10 to park. Hopefully everyone else will go so I can play 3 balls on every hole tomorrow... but I doubt it.
