steel shaft recommendation for irons please

my 8 iron got a bent shaft after a close encounter with a tree trunk today during a swing. i really dont feel like sending it back to ping and waiting a week plus for another factory shaft. irons are ping G2's reg flex. what do you guys recommend? i will get the whole set reshafted so they're all the same.

thanks

rob

my guess is that the shafts in your irons are r300 if they are regular flex. you could just buy one of those and put that in your 8i. that is, if they are actually r300's.

If you want to reshaft the whole set then I assume you want to change something in the playability? What do you want to change? Higher/Lower flight, more accuracy, more distance?

fore, i'm not sure if their r300's or not. i dont remember seeing a stamp on the shafts.

ezra, mainly im just looking to keep the set uniform but maybe a step up from whatever factory option ping was offering for their g2's.

playability wise hmm..

maybe something with a little more feel.

accuracy wise, they seem to go straight enough. or i need to get to a higher skill level and consistent swing before i worry about dialing them in like that.

thanks

A good clubmaker can put the same shaft in those clubs simply by looking up the ping website. If there are choices the clubmaker should be able to figure out what one needs to go back in. If you are going to get everything reshafted again talk to the clubmaker about what your needs are and it will be so. There are so many options and variables a good interview process needs to occur. But again the right set of shafts on those pings will feel like magic in your hands

At the same time consider getting your dynamic lie checked and maybe the new shafts spined if you go that route. You will not be sorry for either option.

Now that I've spent your $ good luck

It's been like a bazillion years since I have looked closely at a Ping iron (think eye2 or ISI-K), but I remember that they used to all have (of course) proprietary cushin shafts only available via Mr. Karsten Hitler-Solheim himself. This is prob not the case now though.

Rifle 5.0's You can not beat the feel of a Rifle shaft. The Rifle 5.0 has a mid bend point, so if your Ping is indeed a DG or similar you may experience slightly higher launch angles with you irons.

Another fine option would be DG R300 with Sensicore. Similar shaft but a better feel with the Sensicore option.

Those ping shafts are not available retail. They are specially made for ping.
They are a lightweight steel, with a mid bend point.

I would recomend the dynamic gold superlights. Very accurate, a lot of feel, and a great ball flight. Best shaft available for the $$$ in my opinion.

Why don't you just send the iron back? I can't see how thats any harder/longer/hasslier than doing the whole lot.Or am I missing something?

Seems to me that this is the perfect excuse to try out 5 or 6 different shafts in that 8-iron. What's the cost/benefit ratio here? You may find the "perfect shaft". The only downside is the time it takes to give each shaft a thorough workout. I'm talking two or three rounds per shaft.

Hey, it helped me find the perfect shafts for my irons, although I did it with a 6-iron...

I just put some Nippon 950's in my 2nd set and they are really nice shafts. You should consider them if you're going to make a change.
