I would take the 40 year old one. It obviously sinks alot of putts or would have been in the trash, on eBay or broken over the knee years ago. Instantly says "I have confidence in my putter or it would have been replaced long ago."

Are those the same putter? Wouldn't the shiny one just turn to shit after a couple months anyways?

Well,if by turn to shit you mean the famous Anser petina then yes But some crazy fools like to shine uo their Ansers, they just polish the bronze like some old ornament at home.I prefer the battered uber-cool look, all the better for battering the younger upstart (Camerons)

ps same putter as in Anser, and technically the same manganeze bronze. However mine is from the earliest mould and the bronze was softer,it had to change as manufacturing processes eveolved and h&s laws changed apparently.Still bronze though

I'd use the old one. I like it when things look like they've been used.

Considering I played an original Acushnet Bullseye for the first 25+ years of my golf life, I voted for the 40.

I have switched to a new YES! Callie, but that's more because I wanted the Anser style head and it's name.

Bullseye is still in my 2nd set, and still gets played.

I voted for the old one so you don't shout at me, Dave!

But honestly,

If I was playing somebody in the club knockout & they pulled the 40 year old Anser out, my 1st thought would be he must be a good putter. Same as if somebody pulls a big ugly mallet putter i'd think he must be a sh*t putter.

How about neither, I do however have a vintage Zebra in my bag that is 30 years old.

So the older, softer one is made from "leaded" bronze.... Good thing you don't live in US. They'd probably call you a "hazard"....
