OK, so I can hit it, just not consistantly...

After the dilemma of trying to decide on the new driver being forces (due to my ****up on Ebay) I've now decided I can't really make use of it.

The 905R is awesome, no doubt about it, but the Grafalloy Blue is simply too stiff for that club (my swing)

When I connect, it flies miles! and I mean that!

Unfortunately, I am just not consistent enough with it. Normally this simply wouldn't be a problem for me, I just force myself to get better with it by practising and practising, but this year is a landmark year for me. Having broken into single figures for the first time in my (short??!!?? - 3 year) golfing career (I'm now a '9') I have been selected to represent my club in the Davies and Tate tournament. This is pretty much the highest level of golf I'll ever play - a scratch Ryder Cup style tournament for all the clubs based in Sussex, UK. Now whilst in the grand scheme of things my club (and me) are never going to stand a chance against some of the +3's etc from other courses in the region, it will be an experience for me to play and a great honour as to be thought of as one of the best 8 golfers in my club (my recent form has been hot....)

This level of inconsistency in my drive will seed doubt into my mind on the tee, especially standing next to a scratch golfer!! So I'm going to have a lesson with my Pro tomorrow on my driving, then going to another club near by on Wednesday (Holtye - for those in the UK) to have a swing lesson and get the Pro to fix me up with a Driver and shaft that I can practice and practice with till the 31st this month and hopefully hit it fairly straight.

I'm certainly not one to keep swapping my clubs, and I'm kind of embarrassed to do this for the 3rd time in 6 months to my driver, but I guarantee that this time I will keep what I have and make myself get down even further

Big thanks to all that helped with passing on their knowledge and advice.

You have a good driver(s). Why not consider putting in a different shaft that better suits you?

Could work, I just think that it may take too long to get that done in this part of the world.... Where I live they would have to send it off - and my first match is on the 31st this month... so need to get practising...

Have you considered just cutting it down? (assuming that it is the 'standard' 45")

I have the 905R and when my swing is on I absolutely love it, but when I'm off, not so much. Anyway, I've been giving my buddy's SQ Tour a try for the last couple of weeks and finally put it in the bag for a round last week; I had the best driving day of my life! If it wasn't the Tour model of the SQ I would have thought that the more forgiving head and geometry was to thank but something didn't sit right. It turns out that the Nike is actually playing at 44" and D4 SW; time to have some fun with the 905R.

My point is, before going out and dropping money on another driver or taking the time to get it reshafted, just drop a half inch or so off the length and see if that doesn't make your ball striking more consistant with it. (Just don't forget to get it back up to your desired SW!)

Thanks for that - some good points there...

I think I will see what the pro says when he takes a look at how I actually hit the ball... Either way, I won't be splashing out on anything new, the 905 has only been hit a few times at the range, so it will be pretty much a straight swap (maybe £10 or £20 here or there but thats neglible)

I got £20 more than I paid for the 905T back as well (well, I've been offered £100 for it, and paid £74 + £7 postage) so happy with that to be honest...
