Ping Rapture

Has anyone played this driver? Any comments on it?

I took my son to the new PGA tour superstore this past weekend, and as we were wandering around he was asking about different clubs. I told him I'd never play Ping because I just didn't like them (I had tried some of the old round drivers and hated them in the past, and I never liked their irons). When we got around to the hitting bays, at one point I found an empty bay with a driver just sitting there so I started hitting it. I was hitting it reasonably long, but consistant and straight. It felt really good, and looked good at set up. Then I had to look at its sole and discovered I was hitting a Ping Rapture. Go figure.

I am not really in the market for a new driver, but it felt nicer than the FT-i and the Sumo2 I also hit that day. Perhaps if I get a raise this year.....

WBL has one, and so does Manchester Golfer.

I'm sure they'll chime in in the near future. They love it.

I guess that's all I have to add. I won't play one because of my feelings on Ping as a company. But that's my opinion.

I suggest hitting one, and then probably opening your wallet.

I demo'd one at the ange a couple of weeks back, it had the Aldila VS shaft in and was simply awesome!!! I also hit the FT5 Tour with the stock E360 shaft and the FTi Tour with that stock shaft and the Ping just blew them away. (more to do with the shaft I think) So I bought one the next day from my club pro but couldn't repeat the range performance. 1st time out on the course was promising but it went down hill from there. Lat week at the range the Rapture badge on the back came off unveiling a big hole, so it's been sent back to Ping and I've ordered an FT5 Tour with ProLaunch instead.

I think the dealers get "special" clubs for their demo stock. If you doubt me, try buying the demo club - they won't sell it to you. I've had the same thing happen before, where I demoed a club and couldn't miss with it. Then I bought the same club/shaft combo and couldn't hit it to save my life. They suck you in, suck out the contents of your wallet, then laugh at you when you come back begging for more.

But I'm not bitter...really....I mean it...

Absolutely the best driver ever made! See my review in the review forum. Compare this to any driver on the launch monitor and you'll see what I mean...

Hit a G5 before you buy the Rapture...especially if you can find one with the same shaft.

Not knocking wbl's comments, but I've seen a lot of posts that say the Rapture is not worth the extra $$ over the G5, so at least try it.

I owned both last year. No comparison. The G5 was good or better then the Launcher Comp (with all the shafts tried in it) and the TEE (with all the shafts tried in it) and all the other drivers I tried on the launch monitor..... Then came the ultimate driver (for me) the Rapture. The Rapture is a G5 on steroids.

Sunnydaze............Warbirdlover is my Brother, and we play several times during the summer..........live about 3 hours apart. I'm a witness......he was hitting his driver better than he ever has.

I could have bought the club I demo'd they taped it up but I decided to give my club pro the chance to match/beat the price that the range was selling it at and he did but the club just didn't perform the same even though it was the same spec. I'm king of glad it broke so I havn't lost any money and I will have my FT5 Tour with ProLaunch in a month or so.

I need to go back to the store with my own driver and compare them. I really don't need it, but geeze, hanging around here just seems to have some force that causes wallets to open....and my driver IS 2 years old now...

I wouldn't get one, but I highly recommend it.
