NXT and NXT Tour

What is the difference in these two golf balls? Does swing speed determine who should use which?

One of them has "Tour" in the name.

One is supposedly geared more towards distance while the other is more feel, or softer. I couldn't tell you which is which. But Golf Digest called the NXT Tour the "ProV1 Lite".

I played both in a round last year when I was trying new balls out for the season. I thought the NXT was softer and felt more controlled, especially around the greens, with the NXT Tour slightly harder and noticeably longer.

I think the NXT Tour is a three piece, so similar to the HX Hots (although nowhere near as good IMHO) or Nike Ignites. The NXT is two piece, and more like a slightly more advanced Maxfli Noodle or Precept Laddie. Both seemed decent balls though, although I preferred the regular NXT. I doubt I would try the NXT Tour again, tbh.

Neither seemed anywhere near as good as the Bridgestone E5 and E6 though, which seemed light years ahead of them to me.

I agree - after trying the E5, I won't go back to the NXTs (at least not til a new one comes out)

I still haven't tried the B330/B330S - but once I'm out of ProV1s i'm going to try them (most likely late summer)

Are the E5's and E6's in the same price range as the NXT?

thanks.

Both are $24.95 a dozen, so right in the same price bracket.

The E5 is a two piece, so has the length and feel benefits of those kinds of balls, but has a urethane cover so gets a lot of spin off short irons and wedges. Has a slightly higher flight too.

The E6 is a surlyn covered three piece, so has really low spin off the driver and long irons. To me it's the nearest thing to a tour ball below $40 a box, with everything but the extreme wedge spin that a urethane ball has - and even then I can get them to drop and stop pretty easily on the greens.

The distance in performance between the E6 and the cheaper Noodles, Laddies, Nike Powers, Top Flites*, etc is much, much further than distance between the E6 and the tour level balls, and if you can live without the extreme spin around the green they could be the perfect ball.

(* I've not tried the new Top Flite D2s that people are raving over for comparison)

I bought some used NXTs and NXT Tours on Ebay. The Tours feel better to me and seem to go a little bit further.

Still nowhere near the feel of a ProV1.

Not being a millionaire I like the NXT. Goes far enough and has decent control.

ProV1s do spin more and have a little more wow factor but the difference isn't enough for me to spend that much on a ball, especially in the winter.

I won a dozen Srixon Ad333s recently and will try them soon - I hear that they are ok too.

I agree the NXT is a decent winter ball - I save the ProV's for nice weather days or days I feel like I'll score well -

but as far as winter balls go, I'd rather spend $25 on the bridgestone E5's than $27 for the NXT that i don't think performs quite as well

wasn't there a rumor that titleist was going to release a newer NXT soon? any more info on that?

I agree, the NXT is a good winter ball. I never really cared much for the NXT tour, seems like I don't play well with that ball for whatever reason. I would hardly compare it to a Prov1, my ball of choice. I am buildning up my ProV stock to play them as much as possible. NXT could possibly be the backup but the Nike powersoft is giving it a run for it's money.

BTW- I tried a few Srixon AD333's and they were similar to the NXT to me. The largest difference was durability. I hit a skip stop with the AD333 and half the cover was stuck in my wedge grooves. I literally was pulling strands of cover off the ball before I putted. I destroyed the ball in less than one round, looked like I hit the cart path 6 times just from my wedge.
