Where did you hear that? The golf equipment store I goto are getting new 907D1 and 907D2 in a month... Their wedges, balls and putters sell like hot cakes... Logically I don't think they will do that...

Dave,

Wouldnt suprise me at all. I have heard for a while now that titleist is leaking money real badly. Retail sales of Titty equipment is terrible.

Bloke who runs a shop told me.He had a delivery of the 907s and the rep told him thats it,no more.

Maybe this explains why Ernie left, they probably told him they weren't renewing his contract unless he bought Cobra

Ya, I wonder how much of this is linked to Ernie and vice versa?

Hmmm....the plot thickens...

Interesting little conversation on The Golf Channel coverage of the European Tour just now. They were discussing how Els made the change to his new Callaway clubs the night before the final round of his last tournament, and then theyn went off into a conversation about his move from Titleist.

Both commentators agreed that Titleist seemed surprisingly unconcerned about losing Els, and that the Titleist reps they had spoken to didn't seem bothered at all. Both commented that the feeling on the tour was that something was in the air with Titleist and that the reality behind their lack of fight to keep Els would become clear in the future.

This would & wouldn't suprise me.

The sales of Titleist clubs would probably not fall that much because they have a cult/select following. All the good young players seem to think they need to switch to Titleist clubs when they get down to low figures & you always have the BMW driving business man who use's them as a status symbol to show how well he's doing. These people WILL custom order.

I would be suprised if they didn't have Scotty's & Vokey's on the shelves as regular items because they seem to fly out of most golf stores I know.

The Cobra brand on the other hand is aimed at the mid to high handicapper & there are a lot more mid to high handicappers out there so more sales. So it would make sense for them to invest in this area. Cobra seem to only have young trendy staffers as well, Poulter, JB Holmes, Ogilvy & Villegas which should help sell there stuff to the 'kids'.

It would not surprise me at all to see Titleist stop making clubs all together in the next few years. Scotties and Volkeys will still be available, but the value in the Titleist name comes from its golf balls. Cobra will be the branded clubs, Cameron putters, Volkey wedges, Titleist premium golf balls, Pinnacle second tier golf balls, and Footjoy shoes and apparel. All fall under the Acushnet umbrella and allows them to trim their advertising expenses as they will be associate sponsers of the majority of golfers with only and handful of players represented under the Cobra club name.

Just watch the Titleist commercials. A lot of the players in the spots are not Titleist staffers. They just use the ball and the Footjoy products.
