Help=LyleG

I want to shorten this driver from 46" to 44.5" It is the TM Burner-10.5*-reg flex. Would this ruin the shaft ? How much would the SW change? Thanks in advance for all opinions and advice.

A 1⁄2" change in the length of a club causes a 3-swingweight point change. So, if you're taking 1.5" off, you're gonna lose 9 swingweight points. You can counter this with a heavier grip, or add some weight to the head.

Jeez, it's already a D5!

Shortening it might actually get it down to a normal weight.

It seems like TM drivers are higher swingweights then what you normally find from other OEM's....

The swing weight is D5 because it has to be at that length. A normal 65 gram shaft and normal head will be D5-D6 at 46 inches. A d5 club at 46 will feel almost exactly the same as a D3 club at 45.
At 44.5 that burner will be D0, which is still ok for a mens club. You could add 4g of lead tape to the head to get it to D2. This will soften the flex by 4 cpms (about 1/3 a flex).

A heavier grip will lower the swing weight. A lighter grip will increase it. However this only matters on the scale, back weighting has no effect on how the heavy head actually feels.

I was speaking of total weight. But I'm with ya on what you're saying.
