Is this the new prov??

Ok, so I was working in the pro shop on Saturday and the boss gave me some new titleist balls, which I can only assume is the new prov. He got them of a titleist rep a few weeks ago, and gave me 6 of them. The packaging is just plain white with pro v1 written down the side of it, nothing like the packaging of the previous prov's, so I was thinking it could be a prototype. So I was just wondering if any of you equipment guru's could clear this up for me? Sorry I have no pictures my camera is not currently working.

My guess would be the rep was just passing out demo's.

It must be the new prov as it has the <-----PROV1----->, on the ball, which I thought was pretty cool, because I usually draw a line onn the ball.

I thought someone said in another thread that the new ProV1 is NOT seamless. Anyone know for sure....

www . titleist . com/golfballs/prov1.asp (Must post more so I can post URLs!)

Titleist themselves call it a "staggered wave" parting line. That is, there is still a seam, but there is no circle you can draw on the ball that won't have dimples. That joining looks like \_/^\_/^\_/^\_/^\_/^\_/^\ now instead of --------------- if you looked closely you could easily find the line where dimples intersected. So, there is a seam, but the seam is staggered instead of straight now.

That is exactly correct. Titliest says this increases the dimple surface by a full 1%. Uh, how am I going to tell the difference in performance? Or am I just going to pay more??

Well, until Titleist starts losing significant market share, there is no reason whatsoever to tinker with the design. Titleist may develop a ProV2 someday, but considering the overwhelming success the ProV1 line has now, that ball is going to be in production for a long time. If you change the ball now, how many people would that just really, really annoy and decide to never buy a Titleist ball again? So, yes, like the post 2 above this one, it is only a 1% change and some cosmetic changes (I really think it is funny how their webpage talks so highly of the "A.I.M. system" ... it's a frickin' line.) when you have the top selling ball, you don't fix it if it ain't broken.

Seemless cover is the obvious evolution in golf ball design, until they go there, I am sticking with bridgestone.

I LIKE the seams. Remember the original PROV's where you'd "seam it up" and get more distance? I still do that, even though it probably doesn't work any more. I also like lining the seam up on putts.
