Women's Clubs

I am looking to get some golf clubs for my wife. She has been wanting to start playing for a while now. I took her to the driving range this weekend and she hit a few of my clubs and now she is hooked.

I need some suggestions. I don't want to spend more than about $300 or $400 for her whole set. I want to buy something of decent quality also.

This is the set I was thinking of getting for her. I also saw them on ebay for $299. It is a 7 piece set and also includes the bag. It looks like pretty good quality also. Ladies' Golf Clubs: Adams Lady A2 OS 7 Piece Set - Chocolate/ Pink

I was thinking that it might be better to get a set like this rather than a full set of cheaper clubs. She will probably play about 1-2 times a month at the most. Do you think it would be better to get a set like this for a beginner that doesn't have all the clubs rather than a cheaper full set?

I heard Mizuno makes a good complete ladies' set for a descent price.

Unless she is very athletic, and based on my experience with my wifes game and the other ladies we play with, I would concentrate on getting a reliable Driver and as many reliable FWs/Hybrids as you can. She/they likely relies on them twice as much as irons just simply because of the distance requirements and confidence in the clubs.

She carries a Driver, 3w, 5w, 7w, 4i/Rescue and just picked up a 5i/Rescue. There are very few holes now that she would ever tee off with an iron

... also the most important advice I can give is lessons, and unless she specifically ask you, never give her advice specifically on the course. Our instructor that taught us to play mentioned it is very easy to find a new golf instructor, whether it be a club pro or husband. It just makes her fume when she sees husbands and boyfriends giving advice on the course.

The only time I ever do so is if she specifically asks me, at which point I usually have to watch because it is safer to just ignore how she swings and plays. Regardless of our playing level, it always makes for a fun round and enjoying the round is what is important. In the same sense it PO's me when people try and give me advice on the course and even may take the enjoyment out of the round. Even when she asks, I simply offer the advice as an opinion, and if there is any question I simply tell her I don't know.

I may be biased because I build a lot of womens set. Get he fitted and buy her a component set. This is the only way she will get shafts that are soft enough, and heads that truly fit.

This is my go to set for women and seniors.

Driver - MALTBY LTECH DRIVER HEADS
woods 20,24,28 - MALTBY XTREME MXU UTILITY WOOD HEADS
irons 6-sw - MALTBY XTREME GLIDER X IRON HEADS
shafts (steel) - http://www.golfworks.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_USLI-
shafts (graphite) - LOGIC LADY GRAPHITE WOOD SHAFTS
grips - http://www.golfworks.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_G1SWM

Total set cost steel shafts = $350 (this is Canadian $$$)
graphite = $450

This is for a full set including a driver. Then build them yourself or get someone to build them for you.

Thanks for the info. I will look into getting a set made for her.

Pa Jayhawk, I had her read Ben Hogan's 5 lessons before she could come to the range with me. I told her she is pretty much on her own with learning how or she can get some lessons. I will point her in the right direction when she asks but I don't want to force it on her or make it where it is not fun.
