Heavy Putter

Anyone seen or used one ?

Am liking the look of their "main" one, if you like. The one that resembles the Ping Craz-e putter with the two-ball style disk behind it. Wouldn;t mind a go with one, like. Not sure if they are the best putter for faster summer time greens, however.

Forgive me if there has been a fairly recent post about this.

A.

Yes, I've got one and love it - even though it's out of the bag at the moment as the Scotty Red X2 I found for $80 is doing the business for me right now.

I have the mallet style (as you are interested in) with swan-neck hosel and it turned my putting around when I got it. Not everyone who tries them will feel comfortable with it, but if you do then it'll help your putting immensely. It takes your wrists right out of the 'things to worry about' list, and is a great thing to have for when you lose confidence in your stroke as it works like a training aid and gamer club all in one.

Above all else, I really like it's feel just as a putter too. The feel at impact is perfect for me, and it makes short putts easier than anything else I've ever tried. Despite its weight you can play touch putts pretty easily with it, and personally I'd say it's better suited to faster greens than slow ones. Even though it's so heavy, I actually find it better on delicate ones and less useful on longer putts or slower greens when you need to put more power into it. That seems to reduce the pendulum effect you can use on mid- and short-length putts and suddenly you need to use your wrists more to get the power.

Does that help? If it feels good to you, it's certainly a worthwhile pickup and a confidence booster when you feel bad with your other putters. I know mine will be back in the back soon!

I only like soft inserts. I did try one out and had they come with a soft Insert I would likely have bought one. Then again, if it had a soft insert you may likely loose all feel with the putter because of the design??? Great feeling putter. Actually out of all the steel or milled putters I tried this likely felt the best to me.

Great concept IMO, and if my putter ever went seriously south it would likely be my putter of choice.

I have the Heavy Putter A1-M (center shaft, blade style)

I tested them out at the PGA show and at a demo day at my local Golfsmith earlier this year and was quite impressed with the way they rolled the ball. I have always preferred a heavier putter head, and the HP really provides that along with a lot of back weigting under the grip. The putter is heavy, as advertised, coming in at over twice the weight of a standard putter.

The HP will not win any beauty contests as it is more of a function over form design, but the concept works. They also use an oversized Winn grip with black and bright green which does not enhance the look at all, but works incredibly well. Since I started putting with the HP, I am rolling the ball more consistantly than I have with any other putter. It does not have the feel of a good Scotty, but I am making more putts with it and my misses are left a lot closer to the hole. I am still trying to sort out wether or not the increase in accuracy is do to the change over to the center shafted putter or do to in increased mass of the HP. I just recently received my Yes! Carolyne which started my switch over to the center shafted putter and have not had it out on course to compare just yet.

To date, the HP is the most accurate putter I have used. Even with the perceived lack of feel that I have experienced, I am leaving the ball a lot closer to the hole on my misses and sinking more putts than I have in the past. Its hard to explain really. With the SC Studio Style I had awesome feel and great distance control. With the HP the feel is no where near the SC, but I am sinking more putts and leaving the ball just as close to the hole on the misses if not closer that the SC SS.

Go give one a roll at a local retailer. Your either going to love it or hate it.

I'd also add that if my Heavy Putter was center shafted like Ualtim's (but still the mallet style) I doubt it would be out of my bag, even with a Scotty Cameron on the sideline.

That's an upgrade I might make later this year though. And that grip, though very comfortable for me, has the problem of the green section getting VERY dirty in your bag through just normal use. Well, mine has anyway...

I was thinking about getting an SC Red X2 33/350 and was scouring eBay for one just before I went on my anti-ho campaign. I love the feel of the Red X, but had not gone into my center shafted phase yet when I tried some putters out in early January. Ever since my experience with the Yes! Carolyne at the show, I have gone to a center shafted exlusive mode. I hated the Yes! putter line until I got to roll a few with my Sweet Carolyne.

The HP grip will be verry susceptible to dirt with the bright green trim, but I have been able to keep my SC Studio Reds pretty clean so I am hoping to do the same with the HP grip. I was originally put off by the larger grip size as I had become accustomed to my ultra thin SC grips, but I believe the larger grip size is all part of the package that is keeping me on line more often. I may end up replacing the grip eventually if I can find one of similar size and feel.

My grip on my Yes! Carolyne is very slippery for a Winn grip. It does not have that same soft feel that the HP grip has. That is probably going to go away soon anyway if I decide to pull the trigger on the UST FF shaft for my Sweet Carolyne with Winn's Tour Lock putter grip so I can back weight it. The modified Carolyne may be good enough to replace the HP, but so far its not even close.
