How to install grips on clubs?

Hey guys,

I'm at the point in time where the nike grips gotta go and new Team colors gotta come on in. Im ordering about 7 blue golf pride and 6 yellow golf pride grips and 1 St. Louis Rams (high school mascots after them). So the question becomes how do I put these on my clubs?

Thanks,

Omar

i had trouble as well....

i bought the solvent, tape, and hook blades, and tried to do it, but to no avail...

it ended up that i stretched the grip to about like 3 times what normal size is... the grip would not slide on...i wrapped tape on the shaft... then put solvent on the tape and swished it around inside the grip, but the grip would not slide on and it took brute strength to get it halfway on, with it stretched beyond belief...

what am i doing wrong???

post up how to do it!!!

Here you go! This is how I do it but others may do it differently.

1. Remove the old grips and tape.
2. I add one layer of tape.
3. I put a golf tee in the end of the new grip.
4. I put a little solvent on the tape.
5. I put a little solvent in the grip.
6. Swish it around then dump it on the tape.
7. Slide the grip on till it is almost near the end and pull the tee, you should hear a pressure release.
8. clean off the excess goo.

Leave it alone for a few hours.

I tried putting a grip on with compressed air - it was really easy - I don't even have a "real compressor" - I used the one built into the trunk of my car - little masking tape, little soapy water and a rubber grip, went on easy, and was pretty easy to align

I've also done it the normal way with tape and solvent (i used mineral spirits) it's not hard - if you lube it up enough with solvent, you really can't screw it up

good luck

I've been regripping my own clubs (and buddy's clubs) for about a year now. In this time I've only had one grip that gave me fits and that's because I was stingy with the solvent. You really can't use too much solvent. I put loads of solvent in the grip and then swish it around before pouring it over the tape.

If you're a cheap bastard like me then just use a paint roller tray(the disposable 40 cent one works great) to catch the excess solvent and then pour back into the bottle when you're done.

Much the same as most everyone else. I have some time, so I'll break it down even further....

1. Put club into rubber shaft protector and put into vise toe up. (optional)

2. Take hook blade and cut the old grip off.

3. Heat the old grip tape with a heat gun for a count of 45 seconds to 1 minute.

4. Take off the old grip tape.

5. Clean the shaft where the tape was with a rag with some solvent on it.

6. Take the new grip and align it next to the shaft with about 1/4" hanging over the end of the shaft.

7. Mark on the shaft where I want the tape to end with a permanent marker.

8. Put on 2-inch double sided tape and cut off about 1/4" past the end of the shaft.

9. Push down one side of the tape, then start peeling the other side. Once the backing is peeled, push down the other side onto the shaft.

10. Put your finger over the small hole in the butt of the grip. Pour in a lot of solvent. There should be enough in there so that when you cover the other end with your other finger, you can swish it around for about 10 seconds, and hear it swish.

11. Pour the solvent out over the grip slowly through the butt end. Work the solvent into the tape.

12. ESSENTIAL! Count to 10 slowly. This allows the solvent to make the tape slippery.

13. Put on the grip.

I hope that helps. I ruined a BUNCH of Golf Pride Player Softie's until I learned that all I needed to do was to count to 10 slowly. Haven't had a problem with a grip since.

Some here disagree, But I think the rubber thingy that fits in a vise to hold the shaft firm makes it a whole lot easier. Same process as above, but having the shaft held firm makes it easy.

i tried all of what you guys have said, but in the final step(sliding the grip on) i couldnt do it....

i had plenty of solvent on, and had lubed up the inside of the grip as well. i dont know whether it was because i had solvent on my hands, or whether it was because the outside of the grip had solvent, but i couldnt slide the thing on...
