Shaft install mission failed

What a piece of crap this Golfsmith ferrule adaptor is. The thing didn't even fit into the head and then when I applied some pressure it literally just fell apart inside the hosel. The fit was so poor I'm really wondering if the Superquad is a .350 hosel. No way that thing was going in there without a whole lot more than I could push it in with by hand.

Can anyone offer any advice, help? I got the head off just fine. I'm pissed, I wanted to play this thing on Sunday.

Where is Lyle when I need him?

This adaptor is obviously not meant to be used with the Superquad. The SQ has a very small area that looks to be .350 then tapers down the rest of the way to the bottom. The ferrule also tapered but not the same length or circumference as the inside of the hosel. I have lost the very bottom of the adaptor and now filed the piss out of the 1st taper. Still not even close to fitting in the hosel. Unless I actually cut the adaptor down to the same length as the 1st hosel taper, there is no way this thing works.

I wish I could help ya with that one Ez, but I have never dealt with reshafted with one of those ferrule adapters.

Call Golfsmith technical folks, you got the GS adapter and I am sure you have a customer number, they have been helpful when I run into problems.

1-800-813-6897

They are open until 8PM central time. (9PM for us east coasters.)

Yeah, I got the wrong one. Same basic idea but the one that fits the Superquad is way shorter in the 1st taper. Would have been nice of GS to say that on the site somewhere. Anyway, I talked to them and now have the info for the correct one. Not sure I'm going to order it from them again though.

Sounds like it is the same as the shaft situation in the R5. You will need this: http://www.golfworks.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_BB9009. You can use one of the long ones like you got from Golfsmith but you have to trim it to fit. I seriously recommend though that you test fit it as you are trimming it and also use some shafting beads which are available at Golfsmith for pretty cheap.

You got any R7/R5 adaptors? It's gonna cost me $8 for a $2 ferrule with shipping.

PM me your address. Its your B-day after all.

You want a .350 to .335 adapter right?

Let me check my shop to make sure I even have one. I have about 50 TM adapters but I am not sure on the size. I will measure them, and send you one.

Yes. Thanks Lyle, PM sent.

Thankfully I had the bright idea to completey cover the head and hosel with moving tape before I tried to install the shaft. The epoxy got quite messy when the shaft didn't fit in. Oh well. If I do get a chance to get out Sunday I guess I'll be dialing in my 13* 3W off the tee. Have yet to hit that club.

I'm with Lyle on the shim. Works everytime. Then, you just need the right ferrule.

I have another POS TM one coming your way tho.

I mailed you a TM adapter (.350-.335) and brass shim and standard ferrule.

I also use brass shims.

However, I would recommend gold or silver shims. They are more expensive, but when you apply heat to remove them, its easier because they are more flexible metals.

There is nothing difficult about removing a brass shim. They are the industry standard for a reason.
