Help getting a set of players clubs.

I am in somewhat of a delimma and need some help or any recommendations I can get. I am wanting something along the lines of the the MP-60's a good forged cavity or muscle back design. I think I am at the point right now that my biggest limiting factor in my game is more control on shaping the shots with the long to mid irons.

On the flip side of this I want to try to building a good set of clubs. I am open to any ideas and recommendations. I have seen ones like the these Henry Hatton Forged Cavity Back DTG-4 RH Individual Iron but have not real world experience with anything other then the Major Brands

I know that is the logical answer (and probably the cheapest one), but I have this strange thing that if I get something in my head I am not happy until I follow through with it. This time it is building a set of clubs that will help my game. And if/when they end up not being what I would expect, I will look forward to the I TOLD YOU SO, YOU IDIOT!!!

Buy the 60's. If you really have to, build yourself a wedge and that way if you are disapointed its only one club.

If the limiting factor is not being able to shape shots with mid to long irons then changing equipment will NOT HELP.You may get lower or higher trajectory and even more length, but shaping shots is a technical swing issue not an equipment issue

By a set of Maltby or wishon forged players irons.
Pick a shaft you like the feel of, find the exact flex that works best for you. Build the irons on a nice 2.3cpm slope, either SW or MOI match them depending on your ball positioning, pick a grip you really like and voila. You have the best set of irons you will ever own, PERIOD.

I currently am playing to a 4.7, I kind of got burnt out after college (the last three years haven't played more then a couple times a month) so I am in the process of a game overhaul and am going to get serious again. I can shape the shots but the control and consistancy is the problem with the irons that I have. I need to get something with more feel.

Thank you Lyle
That is exactly the info I was looking for. I have never played anything but the major brands so I was kind of in the dark as to which way to go. I am going with the project X shafts and I have always been a big fan of the Winn grips. Again thanks for the recommendations.

Then I think its a shaft issue.Maybe you are using shafts that are to light, are you using CS Lites in Pings? Or even ZZ Lites? I can't swing with those at all,my transition is thrown off totally, and I mean way out.I use JZs which are 116gs which works well for me,as opposed to the heavier shafts such as S300s.

lack of control sounds more like a shaft that is to light to me

When I orginally bought the clubs they were JZ's and had them extended +1. Playing a tournament I hit a ball at the base of a tree. When I went to hit the ball from under the tree I found a root that I didn't know was there, bent the shaft and felt like I broke my wrist (thank goodness I didn't). I just had my clubs reshafted after that with the Rifle 6.5. Don't remember the exact weight but I seemed to be able to hit them just a little better. Weight was comparable I thought.

ETA maybe even a little heavier.
