What is it about rusty wedges?

You know, the Oil Cans, various Cleveland wedges, Mizunos, etc with finishes...

"Meant to rust" for "Players/Low handicappers" for "even better feel" etc.

So, what is it about rusting wedges that gives them this better feel? Is it just that it wears down to raw steel? Is the face rougher for better spin? I;m not understanding how this rusting is a bonus?

Has nothing to do with "feel". Rusting creates pits (tiny craters) and the iron oxide on the surface is also "rough" so they spin the ball more. Or so the theory goes....

it's really all about the non-glare, maybe a little better feel also.

It's a total fecking gimmick.

Rust, no rust, it's all the same except rusty clubs look like shit.

Last time I was in a golf shop I was looking at all these wedges with finishes designed to rub off and rust and I couldn't help but woner, "Who the hell would want to have rusty wedges? Must look like shit." lmao. Can't stand it when my clubs get dirty let alone rusty.

The pros love them so you know how that works... I can't see having rusty clubs in my bag.

I have had several of these (oil can, raw haze..ect.) and I play early in the morning and forget to dry them when the round is over. They rust up pretty quick that way and it kinda po's me. The rust gets all over my hands, bag and other clubs.

I have Cleveland 900 RTGs and they're aging gracefully. I had chrome Hogan wedges and there was way too much bling under the sun.

Ive found rusted wedges actually have a lot softer feel to them. Might just be me feeling that, but i find its softer and more spin. The non glare part is very appeasing too.

But i still gota stick with my SM Vokeys, non glare, tons of spin, and i love the dull colour of them.
