Shaft breakage: Has it happened to anyone?

A friend of mine who is a college golfer gave me a call last night. He asked me if I had a spare driver that he could borrow for a round this Thurs. The reason was because his brand new, I mean brand new 905R is being sent back to Titty because the Diamana 63 broke on him. In half. In his downswing. I've never heard of that. Clubhead smacked him right in the back. Its odd b/c he is a very smooth swinger with a nice transition and a 108 SS.

This happen to anyone else?

I've never broken a shaft in the middle of a swing, had a couple snap at the hosel at impact. With all of these companies producing so many pieces, there are bound to be some imperfections that slip through to the market. At least Titleist is taking care of it for him.

He said that it made some noise early in the round, and didn't feel right after that. On hole 9 it just snapped. Titleist takes good care of him. He got that driver for a song.

He played the back nine at -2 teeing off with a three wood.

I have broken a couple of shafts off at the hosel at impact but they were all on irons. That was my first and last experiment with graphite shaft in my irons. Steel shafts in the irons since.

I just recently reshafted my 23* hybrid due to a compromised shaft. The club had been really inconsistant lately and then a two weeks ago at the range I hit a ball that just didn't feel right at all. I gripped the club by the ends to "check" and sure enough I heard some crackling. I dropped the club off at the shop on the way home from work that day. I think had I not caught it early my reply to this thread would be a little different.

Yeah, like "golfer sues other golfer when other golfer's club head came off hitting the sueing golfer in the head"... (or something like that)...

the tip of my aldila shaft feels like a womens flex.... its supposed to be stiff, and ive never had that problem, but yesterday just by shaking it from the grip, the head was wobbling everywhere...

in 2 places, at the top of my backswing, and at impact, the head felt like it was twisting majorly...

im gonna go get it checked out today by an authorized TM dealer, to see if TM will replace it..

that is in addition to the dent on the top of the head where it kinda caved in..

I was thinking something more like, "yes".

It did give me a good reason to throw an AccuFLEX Evolution in it... like I needed a reason.

I did the exact same thing with my old 983K with aldila NV and with a Cleveland quadpro 3w. Both companies took great care of me even with the quadpro already being like 4 years old!

Also broke my 2i shaft under the grip at the transition point in my backswing at the end of sept.

I just dont have the luck with equipment... Everything always breaks or doesnt stay on properly and my bags never last (have gone through 4 bags in just under 2 years and this one is currently falling apart...).

I read this thread last night and thought, "that sucks, I hope it doesn't happen to me". Sure enough, I played today. Hitting my second shot on a par 5, the head of my 4 wood came off, flew left and landed on the cart path. I looked at my headless shaft in disbelief. The damage from the clubhead hitting the cart path scratched the paint pretty bad. This club is only 5 months old so I hope the retailer or Titleist makes good.

The head of my driver broke off right at impact with the ball and flew about 100 yds into a pond, thankfully Callaway replaced it for free.

Yup taylormade rombax shafts. They are just horrendous. I had demoed a stiff shaft (obviously not correct) came in the down swing hit the ball and when I went to the follow through all I had was about 1/4 of the shaft and the grip.
