noticed something b/w PGA and Nationwide Tour

i noticed that in PGA tour, lot of the players play blade type putters, but in nationwide tour/european tour, i see lot more 2 ball or mallet type putters.

i'm not very familiar w/ the tour and skill abilities in each tour, but is there reason behind this?

i think its just feel..

but a mallet putter would have a lower CG, so a higher MOI.. not that it would matter that much on a putter....

I think these guys bring those same putters on the PGA tour when they make it. I'm seeing more 2-ball etc on the PGA with the young players. I'm also seeing a whole bunch of these Nationwide guys using chest and belly putters.

My guess would be that the guys that are the best putters play with blade style putters, and never switch. The guys that play the two balls, mallets, ect. are always trying new things.

Agreed, I think you will start to see more and more chest and belly putters, claw grips and more wacky things as the tour gets younger. Its an offshoot of trying to hit the ball so damn far, something suffers and from what I have seen its mostly the short game and putting. This is just a general statement, from what I can see anyway...

I was thinking that this (mallet putters) is just what is around when these younger guys came up. The only folks I see using straight blades on the courses are older guys, anyone my age and down (I'm 29) seem to use mallets and every full set I see in stores have mallets. I'd say at least 80% of the putters I see in the two shops around here are mallets and that's real conservative.

Maybe in a few years the best putters, from the newer generations, will be using mallets?

Or does the idea that the best putters use blades hold true in college/top amateur area as well?

3 or 4 years ago, most of the people had the "new" putters. I would guess that maybe 10% used blade styles. Not so sure about now.
