Have you ever left a golf course due to a phone call?

OK, with the heated debate on cell phone usage going on in another thread, I started to wonder how many folks have actually left the golf course due to the subject of an incoming call.

Pretty simple poll. Yes or no. Have you ever left the golf course during a round due to a phone call?

This is not a theoretical type question on whether or not you would or think you would, but rather an actually instance during a previous round where you actually stopped playing golf and left the course before the round was completed.

I have only had one guy leave on me during a round due a phone call and that was because he had poor time management skills and showed up an hour late for our round and then ended up being late for something else he had forgotten about.

Yep. Never fails if I try to play 9 on a slow day. An emergency always shows up about an hour into the round. Luckily the course I play most is only 5 minutes from my office. I usually walk, but I wonder what they would say if I drove off in one of their carts?

"Its probably just a routine emergency."
"Just snake a tube down her nose and tell her I'll be there in four hours."

Are you the only DVM in the office Doc? A one man show with no apprentices?

I was going to post my reasons. But ualtim's post above mine I actually find borderline disgusting.

Doc does not have to answer to you, nor does anyone who acts out on the golf course in their own personal agendas, so long as it does not impede your round.

You, Lyle, myself, all of us I suspect, are on the same side for rude phone-usage. It is wrong. People who are constantly on it, talking while you hit, but other than that, who are you to say that your schedule allows for a round of golf with your phone off, and so should everyones?

If that were true, many of us, myself included, would not be able to golf.

Just a couple of quotes from Caddy Shack.....relax.

As far asking Doc some questions, it had nothing to do with this post. I was genuinely interested. Its gotta be tough being the only one in the office when it comes to a vet practice. My wife and I have 8 pets and are at the vets every month. We get to know all of the DVM's in the office, and I just found it amazing anyone could run an office on his own. The two offices we have frequented have had four to five DVM's, running an office on his own must be tough.

If I have offended, Doc, I apologise.

No probs here. I got the Caddyshack references.

Yes, it's just me, but hey, I'm good. What can I say?

You must be. We have had a few issues with our pets which have required multiple DVM's to come in consult with each other or the specialist to take care of the problem. Its got to be tough sometimes to be on your own. You are the specialist and only person to consult with.

My hat is off to you, Doc.

I knew that my lack of only seeing Caddy Shack once was a problem.

Anyway, my problem is just that it seems like, though not so much yourself, the attitudes of some of our member's are rather intolerant and questioning, where I believe the honor of one's statement, such as Doc's, is reason enough.

Only once? We will have to rethink your qualifications to be a member here. As punishment, go to your nearest Blockbuster, rent it, and watch it 7 times over the weekend.

As for the attitudes of the membership, you going to get all types. None of us are perfect human beings and we all have or own flaws and skill sets. In general, I think we have a highly functional group on ST. I have belonged to several different boards and ST is definitely my favorite and the only one I frequent. There are some people I tend to agree with more than others and there are others I tend to disagree with more than others. If I do not like the way a thread is going, I avoid it. I am here to relax, have some fun, and talk about my favorite game. I even enjoy a good argument on here from time to time. Its all good.

Besides, where else could I get insulted by a Canuk, an Irishman, an Englishman, a Cheesehead, a Texan, a Spanish Wolf, a Californian, a Floridian, an Augstan, and a Ping playing fool in the span of 5 minutes?

Enjoy the ride.

Is the point of this thread to show the necessity of phones on the course?

Nope, with all the talk on the other thread, I was just plain curious how many people actually had to stop their round and leave the course. I have only seen it done once in person and I was curious to see how often it actually happens.

Cell phones, love them or hate them, are a part of being on a golf course these days. I was just interested to see if there are indeed phone calls that would make someone leave the course.
