tried the 2-ball mania today

ive been putting this off for a couple yrs. dont know why.guess i dont like to follow trends.

anyway my short putting has been lackluster to say the least this season so i bought a White Steel 2-Ball.took it out for a test drive this morning got in a semi quick nine.(brother in-law called on the 4th tee and talked for a 1/2 hr. and i didnt see a sole.)

from 5' in i was bangin them in.even though they had sand dressed the greeens i didnt have much trouble.i felt more confident over those scary 3' then i have since i took up the game.

the thought of 3 jackin it never crossed my mind because after the first putt i was atleast in the 5' range.if the greens hadn`t had sand on them i may actualy had a couple birds as a couple came up just a couple inches short.

hopefully this trend will continue.

I was putting "lights out" with mine until the honeymoon wore off. I hope yours doesn't. I gave myself 6 birdie chances today on par 4's. 3-putt every one of the damn things.

Add some weight to the head to start with. The 2-balls are notoriously head light. My experiment with the 2-ball ended after a few weeks as the distance control was horrible. I even had the tour filled version with the extra 20g of head weight and it was still head light. The 2-ball is great for alignment, but I never could quite get the distance control.

If I ever go back to the 2-ball, it will need a bunch of weight in the head and most likely 100g of back weight.

Enjoy the 2-ball. It may just end up being your putting salvation.

I've been reading this thread and WBL's thread about putting woes with a smile as I just went through the same thing. Three putts were killing me and I had no confidence whatsoever in my putting anymore. I couldn't tell whether I was going to lag it 15 ft. or 25 ft. and I was pushing and pulling 3-4 footers left and right.

I tried a bunch of putters at the golf stores and decided none were perfect for me but that a heavy putter would probably be best. I really liked the feel of the Odyssey 2-ball blades but it was too light. I didn't want to stick a bunch of lead on one and really didn't want to pay the $$$ for one.

When I was online searching for iron components I ran across this putter head:

So I bought it and another four promising looking heads and built some putters. I ended up keeping the three I like best and selling the other two. I made almost enough on the other two to cover the costs of the three I kept.

This putter is nice. Heavy, about 390 grams. I like the composite insert in the face and every putt I hit with it feels solid. I feel like I can make anything under 10 feet now. In the last three rounds I've had no 3-putts either. I've been hitting it for almost a month now and it doesn't feel like a fluke.

Yesterday I was draining putts left and right and lagging 30 footers to within tap-in range on some very rolling and fast greens. The guys I was playing with started calling it "the stick of death"...

A heavy putter definitely solved my problems, at least for now. It may not be as glitzy or galmorous as the latest Scotty masterpiece, but it's getting the job done.

I found the same thing, no distance control. I've seen a lot of guys putt very well with them though. Good luck.

Oh, and WBL... your putting is officially a whole lot deeper in the toilet than mine right now. Thanks for makin me feel better about the 38 strokes with the flat stick last round.

strange you should mention that. i mentioned to my partner who didnt go with me today hat it felt alot lighter then my WH Rossie.but for me this could be a good thing as i tend to leave putts short because i feel the head is so heavy i dont have to hit it so hard and with the lighter head i feel i need to put a little on it to get it there.

but as with anything a few misses and the confidence starts to waiver.hopefully that will be a ways down the road.

I've been putting with a 2ball for two years now after 16 years with a very small, light T-Line that resembled a Wilson traditional blade.

The head is indeed light but I am used to that. The 2ball's alignment aid has helped me on the short putts quite a bit.

I think it just takes time to get used to the lightweight head (and it IS indeed light).

I sunk a 35 footer yesterday for birdie with mine and hit some excellent long breaking putts....

I am a very very average putter and I think that my issues are more of technique than equipment though (shocking).

I don't three putt much and I don't one putt much....just a boatload of two putts.

Could be worse though. I played with two guys in their early 30's yesterday. they could hit it a mile....one of them had an 80 with two four putts. 3 jacked one of them from six feet...

I think good putting all comes down to a consistent stroke and confidence. Way too many golfers look to equipment to provide a "magic bullet". For years I putted with a cheap, light Northwestern putter and was lights out. Then one day it just didn't look right to me and the putting went downhill. I won a Slotline Inertial putter in a tournament and used that for about 15 years until this year.

There's something to be said for consistently two putting. In my last four rounds my putts have been in the low 30's, almost all two putts, the occasional one putt and no three putts. I'll take that all year long.

I played on Friday with a couple guys like that. They out drove me on virtually every hole. I was hitting the ball straight off the tee though, even if it was only 250ish but I was always in play. I didn't three putt a green and shot 80 on a course with some really tiny, slick and rolling greens.

They gave my putter a new nickname too "the stick of death"

As much as I like bangin' the ball off the tee, golf is still about scoring. If you keep the ball in play and have a good short game I think you can shoot some very good rounds almost anywhere.

that is the thing ive noticed with the 2-ball also.short putts 5' and in i can stand over the putt and see the line much easier.begining this season i was pushing alot of those 5' and in to the right.now i can see that its on the right line and trust it much more.
